Stability.. Not so much

Appointment-Setter (Former Employee)
Ontario, CA

I worked at Jan-Pro part-time for less than a year

ProsNice manager at the time and the staff was pretty nice.

ConsLeads were not very good at all.. I managed to stay afloat for about 6 months, but after that it was really hard to book leads due to leads not being of good quality. I was thankful to get hired at the time, but would never go back.. At times very tedious and boring.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet better leads! Hire more appointment-Setters.. Just one appointment setter makes the pressure too much for one person.

High Employee turnover was just the start...

Operations Manager (Former Employee)
Jacksonville, FL

I worked at Jan-Pro full-time for more than a year

ProsCoworkers were great! Made some good friendships here :)

Cons-Poor Management
-High turnover
-No Benefits
-No sick days

The problem is not Jan-Pro as a whole but the Jan-Pro Jacksonville franchise. During my 2 years here I saw at least 9 sales reps come and go, 5 operations managers, 3 general managers and countless others. Basically they hire anyone, the few real professionals that did get hired I saw quit in a matter of days or weeks. Sales reps will often sell accounts too low and then quit due to poor managment. The problem seems to be that the GM is not given the authority to manger the bussiness effectively. This is due to owners having their hands in the daily mangment of the company and daily operations, there is a constant struggle for power in the managment of the company. As a result employees would be instucted to do different things by different people and then reprimanded later. If a customer account is past due for 10 days they are automatically submitted to collections, This makes the sales team look very unprofessional. During my employment we went through 3 GM's in total. It pays Salary but 60+ hours per week is the normal expectation as I was told directly by the owner. I was never provided any sick days, and if your out sick or for an emergency your salary would be docked that days pay. Unfortunitly the idea of "managing employees" was to plant tracking devices in all employees cell phones. If your car stops moving your phone will start ringing and you'll receive warnings or threats. I wish this were a joke or exaggeration, but it is not. They have had more than 21 employees either quite or be fired in 2011 in just my one office. I finally left because they stopped paying my bonuses and commissions. They promised one set of commission and then they will find a way not to pay you what is owed. This business only seems to care about doing what they need to grow and dont put much thought into valuing their employees or franchise owners.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet your GM actually run the business and keep 1 point of authority and contact for your employees to follow. When you have hard working, intelligent, successful people working for you, treat them with some value not just as a number. All people should be treated with respect and dignity not just the rich and powerful.

This company has provided me a great opportunity to advance my career.

Account Executive- Jan-Pro of Orlando (Current Employee)

I have been working at Jan-Pro

ProsEmpowered to succeed, provide consistent leadership with fair expectations, great support, fantastic marketing collateral, training, extremely competitive commission structure that rewards results. The ability to sell a service that is needed by almost all companies.

ConsThe market is extremely competitive and therefore there is a significant amount of pricing pressures and Jan-Pro is committed to providing a better level of service at a slightly higher price.
