I worked at Janssen Biotech full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Diversity, opportunities and rotational career placement to broaden your skill set.

    Cons

Lost the small company feel. Culture has changed dramatically. The Credo has been adjusted and lost it's original purpose.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Return to what made J&J great. Revisit the Credo and reintroduce it's values.

    I worked at Janssen Biotech

    Pros

This company has really great drugs that can help patients immensely. The benefits package is very good.

    Cons

These great drugs are over-priced and are not well marketed. Management is incompetent and treats employees like children. Due to a number of law suits and settlements, there are a ton of rules that have to be followed. Google "corporate integrity agreement".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a biotech company, not a small molecule pill pushing company. You need to re-evaluate the way you approach the business, your customers, and your employees.

I worked at Janssen Biotech full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Fine if you win the graces of management.

    Cons

Janssen is a J & J company, It uses calibrations to evaluate employees annually. The rating system is base on a bell-curve. It's highly bias, if a manager doesn't like you it's a way to give you low ratings that work against you if you want to move up in the company. The ratings are like a popularity contest. Everyone is trying to be in good favor with the manager in an unnatural way, this creates bad competition where everyone is working against each other instead of working together and everyone is unhappy in this work environment. It brings out the worst in people. If you can stomach this kind of unnatural work environment then it may be OK for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The old Jack Welch system of evaluating employees is antiquated at J & J. Companies like GE and Coca-Cola have done away with the old "10% evaluation rule". Get into the 21st century J & J. There are better and more fair ways to evaluate employees. You are losing talented employees instead of encouraging a productive and effective work force.
