Denver sales desk- Internal Sales Consultant

    Internal Sales Consultant (Current Employee)
    Denver, CO

ProsGreat people, personalities were outstanding. Some of the best people I have ever worked with

Cons19 consecutive quarters of net outflows...this firm is in serious trouble. Also the compensation is below industry norms for the Internal sales position. External wholesalers as a whole lack experience compared to other firms and most don't hit their sales goals. As a result, the Internal Sales Consultants struggle.

Advice to Senior ManagementLower sales targets so your employees can feed themselves....

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Pretty good company to work for

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat benefits, good location, salary is fair, nice extra employee perks i.e. holiday party, employee appreciation day in the summer, etc.

ConsContinually overhauling existing processes whether it's needed or not, too much "high level" thinking without realizing the impact on the day-to-day processes. If it isn't broken, don't fix it! It's expected that people are involved in or contribute to special projects as part of their job nowadays regardless of the level of competency or interest.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop insulting our intelligence by pushing the client-centric philosphy. We know who the clients are and how to treat them. Excellent client service will not guarantee assets from leaving when performance is poor.

    Fun, learned a ton.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsDiverse group of individuals. Perks were outstanding. The story of Janus, the background was ingrained in the call center group.

ConsOvertime can be great, but there comes a time when it becomes too much.

    Great company, with great culture!

    Registered Representative (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsThe culture is amazing. Tom Bailey instilled a more relaxed atmosphere then most mutual fund companies even with his absence. Information is freely shared about fund performance and management.

ConsCommunication is key. There were often changes that were not communicated until they occurred. There are business reasons for this, however.

You're promoted by being a favorite not your hard work

    Investment Accountant (Current Employee)
    Denver, CO

ProsGreat benefits and work life balance is as well.

ConsNo raises for 3 years straight while other firms in the same industry are giving raises, 401k mutual funds only offers Janus mutual funds and no outside mutual funds, management tries to tell you things are getting better by buying you new office supplies, if you are hourly they will not pay yu for overtime

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote on merit not on both of you enjoy the same sport team. Treat everyone equally

This once was a great company to work for.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Denver, CO

    Pros- Good benefits package
    - Nice location
    - Decent training and development department

Cons- Overpaid Managers and Directors and incompetency throughout the organization
     - Ineffective HR department
    - Nepotism and Favoritism is extensive
    - Lack of accountability at ALL levels
    - Your opinions are only valued if they are in agreement with your department head
    - You are rewarded and promoted based your networking (sucking up) skills, not your talent and ability to actually get things done.
    - Lack of any type of manager assistance or encouragement towards career development.

Advice to Senior ManagementThis used to be a great company to work for. There needs to be a housecleaning of Managers, Directors and VPs. There are too many people in current positions because they happened to be at the right place at the right time and were not thoroughly vetted for ability and skill sets. The departure of many talented people has left a plethora of unqualified and unprofessional people in positions of power and authority. Bring back the culture where people were actually proud to be part of the organization. Walk the talk and actually do something about breaking down the silos. Watching the constant power struggles is draining and tiresome. Try to simulate what little morale may still exist. Stop handing out promotions to incompetent people simply because they like to play "The Game" and actually acknowledge people with professionalism and skills. Too many good people have left and they will continue to do so unless the culture returns to one of mutual respect.
