    Pros

    Reasonable expectations and business goals
    Work life balance

    Cons

Did not like selling a third tier brand product to retail but that's their leading brand in the US

I worked at Japan Tobacco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Training and pay is very good. Also great benefits such as vacations and holidays. Raises and bonus based on year end reviews.

    Cons

Upper Management claims they want your honest input but if it is anything except positive input they hold it against you. Also lower management plays favorites among reps and there are some very unethical managers in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider taking to heart what employees relate to you in regards to what is going on it the field and lower management.

I have been working at Japan Tobacco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Maybe, The Potential to travel abroad...that's questionable too.

    Cons

The salary is on the lower end for the industry.

Tobacco is a tough market and if you don't already have a solid market share it's even tougher (JT has a <1% MS in the USA).

Do your research and ask questions; don't be sold on the global stature of JT (3rd largest tobacco company globally...etc) ask about the USA, they're not selling Camels here...they're selling Wings (what's that?! My point exactly).

I thought the benefits were sub-par; United Health for medical and Aetna for dental, the issue is not the providers, but the plans JT selected.

If you're not (or can't be) passionate about tobacco look away.

Overall, I thought the work environment was toxic. Most people want to leave, but they're complaisant. Annually there's a rotation of about 6 -10 employes in an office of 50...that's BAD!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start to take notice of employee moral. The European way rarely works with the US workforce.

I have been working at Japan Tobacco

    Pros

Excellent entry level salaries and benefits, and a very good environment for growth for young entries. Strong training and mentoring among middle management. Lots of investment made to develop employees through cross functional training, and international assignments. If you provide value to the company, senior management will go to leaps and bounds to keep you. Employee turnaround is EXTREMELY low-- working here 10+ years is common, many boast 20+. Good culture for healthy active living and philanthropy, plus good in-office perks.

    Cons

Depending on your market, highly restrictive industry laws can make the actual work very complicated. The company culture is also conservative as a result. Because the turnover is so low, younger employees are less prevalent. Strong hierarchical structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management and excoms could benefit from building themselves back into the company community and taking a little more time on the regular to mingle and get to know their people.

I have been working at Japan Tobacco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

JTI strives to achieve a positive work-life balance, but also compensates their employees very well. Pay is higher than similar roles in other competing companies and the benefits are among the best in Canada. They are consistently ranked in the Top 50 best employers in Canada for a reason.

    Cons

The middle-management has been messing up things for a few years and seem hellbent on continuing to do so. Over-analyzing all of the small minute details and missing the big picture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to your people in the field. The numbers and statistics don't tell you everything. And commit more budget to bigger projects instead of 100 little projects.

I worked at Japan Tobacco part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Very good working conditions. You are given everything you need to do your job in terms of tools and equipment. The food is very good and affordable on the factory. Safety is their main concern, so it is very safe.

    Cons

Not much work to do for internships. Most processes on the factory are established already. Not many cons, they obviously depend on what you are looking to do and what are your expectations.

I have been working at Japan Tobacco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A good company to work for. Environment is vibrant and you never find yourself bored. All the policies seem to be created by people for people. By this I mean you know there are always the right tools in place to rely on.

    Cons

The information exchange in the company could be better.
