I have been working at Jardine Matheson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very organized. All SOP spelled out clearly so no way to go wrong. Have a team of long service super committed middle management who are as close as family. Staff at the store are engaged and supportive to the middle management.

    Cons

Top management stays at the top and not communicating with the front liners. Decision made without taking staff's opinion into consideration. Company strategy very conservative and product oriented, consumer behavior been neglected. Staff welfare not treated as priority and no HR department to manage the 2000 employees. Remuneration package never been revise for more than 20 years.

    Advice to Management

CEO needs to communicate with the middle management and the front liners to learn more about the business. Learn to analyse the real problem face by the company and work out a strategy base on this. Once a strategy is spelled out, back it up, follow through and follow up till result is shown. CEO has to be the leader of the project instead of assigning some lower ranking manager to lead the company strategy as that person will not get full support.

I have been working at Jardine Matheson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits. Good compensation. Large conglomerate to expose yourself to a lot of industries. Great place to develop your career.

    Cons

Conservative old fashion family business. Slow in technology adaptation. Some middle management are shallow and not respectful to the staff members. Group companies are too decentralized - weak in corporate culture.

    Advice to Management

Move on to the digital age!

I have been working at Jardine Matheson full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Assigned to Gammon Construction which operates under Jardine. Great experience. Pretty relaxed but it's still a good overview and great insight into the overall functions of a corporation. I was mentored by one of the JETs, and basically did first-year JETs work under supervision.

    Cons

Like all internships, there are days of pure boredom.

    Advice to Management

No advice, great HR department, great organization for an internship program.

I worked at Jardine Matheson full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Great team work (I got great colleagues to support me, likewise!). - Flexibility with delivering of work and report. - Great supervisors with years of experiences to guide and nurture subordinates. - Company invest a lot on career development and training. - Perks of staying in 5 star hotels, economy class flights and jet setting across the globe (USA, Europe and Asia). -You get to mingle with the top management in some events, which is great!

    Cons

    - Limited career growth for an IT background person (however, if you've financial background, you're in luck!). - As a multinational company, bonus is standard about average 2 months standard. - Increment is 5-7% annually (those years...not too sure about now). - Allowance is based on country you're working with, so if you're in Malaysia, that's RM60. Imagine if you travel to Europe, RM60 is only EUR13!!! However, you are allowed to claim per diem for food and transportation charges.

    Advice to Management

Better salary match in the market. Pride in Performance is the tagline, if you perform, you'll be rewarded well.

    Pros

It has friendly environment and enjoyable woring time. It also offers reasonable package for intern. As a big coorporation, it offers opportunities in many areas

    Cons

Company strategies are conservative. If young and love chanllenges, it is recommended to work in other sectors. Also its pay though higher in corporate sector, is far below what banking and consultancy can offer

    Advice to Management

Leaders are in general very friendly and approachable. However, due to the history and sheer size of the company, they tend to be too conservative sometimes.
