Former Employee – worked at Jaspersoft
Pros – I found Jaspersoft to be an exciting, challenging place to work. Management listened to individual contributors, and gave them the opportunity to make a real difference to the company. Risk taking was accepted, and even encouraged. It was fun being in the open source business, and being at a company that was innovative in both its product and its business model.
Cons – I wasn't crazy about the work space. Its an old San Francisco building with a weird floor plan.
Some of the early techies have left, leaving a knowledge void.
Company wasn't profitable when I left.
Advice to Senior Management – Make sure the teams overseas are tightly integrated with the rest of the company.
Focus on turning a profit - avoid distractions and peripheral opportunities.

Current Employee – been working at Jaspersoft
Pros – The people and the product. We have intelligent, hard working, level headed executive leadership, departmental management, and colleagues. Our product strategy and management departments are much more sophisticated than a few years ago, and the result is some really exciting product. And finally, respect - mutual respect across departments and geographies and up and down the hierarchy are built into the Jaspersoft corporate culture. If you're smart, respectful, and work hard it's a great place to work.
Cons – We run pretty lean - it would be nice to have more operating budget. Like most software companies, we work hard and sometimes very long hours.

Former Employee – worked at Jaspersoft
Pros – good software
good rank and file employees
location
Cons – Executive management can't prioritize. Everything is a fire drill. There's no time to plan before implementing. They say they value quality, but they push you to do some much work that quality suffers.
Advice to Senior Management – To do some things well, you can't do everything.

Former Employee – worked at Jaspersoft
Pros – Good group of people
Interesting technology
Great SF location
Good benefits
Cons – Most of product development devoted to the open source products that generate no $
Commercial product pricing strategy made absolutely no sense
Marketing at all levels for the commercial products was a joke
With one exception, sales management was disorderly, disinterested, and reactionary.
No sense of urgency about ANYTHING, except when it was time to point fingers at the sales team
Sales people treated like children. Expected to be at your desk at 8 am so you could watch the rest of the company trickle in beween 9 and 11 (management included)
Advice to Senior Management – Decide whether you want to be a true commercial venture with a sustainable model or some open source also ran whose only strategy is to hope someone will acquire you.

Current Employee – been working at Jaspersoft full-time
Pros – Seeded well via the open source community and ISV/OEM channels
Covers a decent portion of the BI spectrum for a niche vendor
Nice people to work with, strong focus on constant community contribution
Cons – Lacks leadership to take it to the next level
Flawed sales distribution, not a scalable go to market strategy
Lacking general sense of urgency, too much 'community' not enough 'commercial'
Advice to Senior Management – Invest in the company and get some top notch talent to take this company to the next level. Some important pieces are in place: seeding strategy, product is looking better.....but the company is lacking execution.
