Great company with amazing employees; policies, building, and pay outdated

I have been working at Jervis B. Webb part-time

    Pros

Company continually reinventing itself, involved in material handling from design to implementation. Policies can and will be changed if they aren't working for the company.

    Cons

low compensation for certain positions, no merit based annual increases (without approval from head leadership), super outdated facilities in Farmington Hill HQ.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make diversity a priority in upper management, properly benchmark salaries, revamp employee appraisal system, and get a newer building!

I worked at Jervis B. Webb

    Pros

Great people, interesting products, and good challenges on all levels

    Cons

A company adrift, constantly changing directions and very secretive. Hard to plan or align to company goals and objectives when they seem to change constantly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a direction and stick with it, sure there will be difficult challenges and at times will see insurmountable, but rewards are worth it. Also, let your staff in on the company's objectives and fully support them. Finally, realize that things happen, unplanned things happened.

    Pros

The people are great , they have become used to the Webb way and most people have become complacent, it's like working with zombies

    Cons

Old technology, everything done manually, a lot of talk and no do

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in technology, stop talking about it and do it

I have been working at Jervis B. Webb

    Pros

Great employee events - from the summer picnic to the holiday potluck there's always events scheduled. It's nice to meet other people during these events who you might otherwise not run into. People are friendly and willing to help out. The benefits are great - health, dental, vision, 401K.

    Cons

Change is continuously happening - don't expect to have the same day twice. I enjoy this, others may find it a little bit overwhelming.

I have been working at Jervis B. Webb full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are second to NONE. Part of a larger, growing global company. Managers work hard and are very friendly.

    Cons

Legacy policies can be cumbersome, but with the right people to help influence change those will be updated very soon. Change is frequent but that also means the company is improving and getting better!

Lot of politics and not enough positive growth or true appreciation of its employees and team.

I worked at Jervis B. Webb full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It has a long history and has been around a long time. Typical benefits, not terrible, not better than average.

    Cons

Very old fashioned company, not very forward thinking in their policies or benefits. Also there are a lot of company politics at play. Management is not very fair or genuinely concerned with its employees happiness. Very reactive company. The company morale is often low and there are some very underserving executives in the company who seem determined to keep it that way. Management keeps the wrong guys in charge and promotes those who are not really interested in the company's welfare but their own welfare. It should be a great company but in actuality its a mess.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rethink the management team, they are killing the company morale and employees who are not happy do not perform well.

I worked at Jervis B. Webb as a contractor

    Pros

None. They didn't offer anything better than any other company I've worked for in the past.

    Cons

Micromanagement and talking down to your employees isn't great for morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees as assets, and not liabilities.

Former Employee - Supervisor in Farmington Hills, MI

    I worked at Jervis B. Webb full-time

    Pros

Challenging, always new hurdles to overcome. Good variety of work. Company is doing more to push underperformers out (however slowly).

    Cons

Still stuck in an old automotive culture that doesn't work. Totally reactive. Information not readily shared with everyone that needs it. Pay is lower than you'd think. There is a saying in the field that the company will step over a $20 to pick up a dime. Staffed by a number of complacent people who have been there a long time and are engrained in some outdated mentalities. No real opportunities for advancement. Not many processes defined and followed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You do not always know best. You make mistakes too - admit them and turn them into growing experiences. Support your people, and show it. Start sharing more information down the chain and get their ideas - you can't solve all the problems, but you can delegate and set a better example.
