Cons
Upper mangement in disarray
not enough pay
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Flight Benefits, Work/Life Balance, interesting industry, innovative at times
Cons
a very competitive industry known for poor management, mergers, and unions
a lot of politics
some people get put in jobs that they don't know have experience in
professionalism is questionable with some people
Advice to Senior Management
Keep striving to be innovative and implement a training program to develop talent to move into other areas of company.
Pros
Rapid growth fuels lots of work and constant challenges. If you're looking for excitement, airlines have plenty and JetBlue is one of the best. I would recommend working at JetBlue as long as you are not considering IT.
Cons
I would not recommend working for the JetBlue IT department under the current senior leadership. Fear and intimidation are not leadership skills. Critique publicly and compliment never is also unacceptable. Additionally, even herculean achievement will not result in career advancement despite the definite challenge IT Crewmembers have with work life balance given workload and staffing. The company overall has had a very difficult time with performance management and IT has been at the head.
Advice to Senior Management
Judge leadership on their organization's Net Promoter Score. NPS says it all. If you're not listening to it you're either not listening to your people or not treating IT like the rest of the company.
Pros
Always busy, never bored. Great people to work with. Hours can be flexible and you can trade hours online. Can often double up on shifts.
Cons
Management was often lazy and never helpful. It was very stressful and they cut a lot of hours and by the end of the day you were very exhausted and beat. Too much work for one person, very hard to deal with irate customers. Management would tell you to be firm, but then they would come out and give the customer anything they wanted, making you look very foolish.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to what the ground people have to say, give them more employees to get the job done and stand by the decisions the crewmembers make, and don't undercut them.
Pros
Very flat hierarchy and management is extremely receptive to ideas - even entry-level employees can make a difference in company policies and processes.
Cons
In the quest for company-wide equality, management positions are given the same benefits packages as frontline employees. Great deal if you're a frontline employee, but it's a huge loss if you're a management employee because your benefits aren't nearly as good as you'd get elsewhere.
Pros
Friendly environment, Good salary and path to grow.
Cons
Busy schedule, rough hours, more close relationship between crew members and management. Better IT
Advice to Senior Management
Better relationship with crew members
Pros
The environment here is very friendly. You own your work and there you dont feel like you are being micro-managed. Its a very young department (marketing) - I would say the average age is 28. Very energetic and smart group of people.
Cons
politics - as always. Titles matter. its clear who runs the show and who's ideas are heard - managers and above.
Pros
- Very talented individuals in IT to work with.
- Good Benefits
- Good work culture
Cons
- IT Directors have no focus
- Many poor decisions made by IT Directors
- Forced sense of appreciation
Advice to Senior Management
IT EVPs should stop treating IT crewmembers as expendable and replaceable by lower skilled workers and should promote within.
Pros
The five values encompass it all. Integrity, Passion, Fun, Safety, Caring... and of course the flight benefits.
Cons
the pay. the health and medical benefits.
Advice to Senior Management
n/a
Pros
Flight benefits, ability to move up or around the company, some of the senior employees still give you that 'family' feel.
Cons
Incompetent leadership, can't figure out how some people are promoted other than the good ol' boys routine - promoting your buddies basically. Some of the decision key people make are confusing.
Advice to Senior Management
Weed out the bad apples and make it a great place to work. Maybe the middle management should be shaken up a bit. Try to improve morale also within some departments. Its a cancer.
