I worked at Jewish Community Center

    Pros

Some of the best reasons to work at this place was to learn people skills and teach people how to act and what to do around kids.

    Cons

Some of the downsides of working here were the long hours without getting any benefits and little pay.

    JCC Employee (After School)

Current Employee - After School Employee in Chicago, IL
Current Employee - After School Employee in Chicago, IL

I have been working at Jewish Community Center

    Pros

Working after school is nice because the hours are fairly flexible, plus the job in itself is social. You're able (at most locations) to leave a little early if need be. Plus, if you can't come in you just need to find a sub.

    Cons

Working with kids has some of the same typical cons across any job description - parents complain (unwarranted), kids can be whiny, and you have to cater to some ridiculous requests

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more upfront about how parents can make things difficult, about what to do with whiny kids. During training they acted like getting "problem" kids is rare, but every grade has at least a handful.

I worked at Jewish Community Center full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Teaching young minds..and giving them a safe place to be...to help them grow and develop.teach them about the holidays in a calender year..make them feel love and share their feelings.

    Cons

Overworked and underpaid..no merit system...arrive early and leave late...not appreciated for the time and effort from administration....sometimes stressful in full filling deadlines

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please do not show favoritism...opinions should count and not held against you

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Dallas, TX

I have been working at Jewish Community Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Being a smaller non-profit organization allows for cross departmental training. Each employee is expected to volunteer for agency-wide events for a chance to meet new members and learn from others' strengths and weaknesses.

    Cons

There are often conflicts between board members, lay leaders and staff members. Once an idea is introduced it takes too long to become a reality, if ever. Budgets are very tight and programs are driven by donations rather than need or vision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more realistic and accept "no" as an answer.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
