Increase the pay or offer incentives for part time workers. Certain programs could use more direction and organization.

I worked at Jewish Community Center (More than a year)

    Pros

Seriously one of the best summers of my life. I was almost full time because I worked Mon-Fri but it only came up to like 35 hours a week. I absolutely loved my campers and my coworkers. I had to wake up really early every day because I lived kind of far away but I didn't mind it one bit. I loved coming to work.

    Cons

This place is so awesome I barely consider this a con, but the pay wasn't very good. I only had enough for gas and car insurance with each paycheck, but if I had a lot of money I sincerely would work there for free. I'm not sure how it is anymore, I visited last summer (2014) and a lot of management changed. They were part of the reason camp was so awesome. I wish I could've worked more than one summer but realistically, I needed money and the J isn't a good place for that. But i miss it every day and it's been two years since I've worked there.

    Advice to Management

When I worked there paychecks were a little messed up, I didn't get my first one till a month after I started working. That wasn't very fun.

I worked at Jewish Community Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you love children and knowing you making a difference in their lives it's fantastic.

    Cons

The directors at the one in Indianapolis avoid all problems by telling you to talk to someone outside of the JCC about them. They are never in their office because they are either on vacation or working out. By the end of my three years there they told me they had done all they could in my situation and informed me that they do not know what's going on if I don't tell them, this was after they told me they didn't want to hear my problems. It was probably the most mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting job I have ever had. The feeling of helplessness was overwhelming. Also there is absolutely no room for advancements, no raises (they don't show their gratitude monetarily), and if they put you in a room with other teachers they will play favorites. Lastly when I was sick with strep throat they tried to make me come to work because most of the substitutes had already quit and they didn't have anyone to cover the shift.

    Advice to Management

My advice to the management would be consider all of the people that left. It wasn't because they don't like working at the JCC it's because they are underpaid and get treated like garbage everyday.
