    Cons

No opportunity for growth. Demanding enviroment, bad pay, poor business decisions, no competent business model

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to retain talent that is hard working and knowledgable, don't make threats of the business selling, decreasing pay, ect. Learn to make smarter business decisions and don't expect the employees to suffer do to incompetent business risks.

I have been working at John Bean Technologies

    Pros

you get to get your hands in all and anything to make your product do that right thing. You get to see the product development from top to down and will learn alot at the end of the day. Very good for Junior Engineers to learn and see how industrial equipments are built from ground up.

    Cons

compensation is not as high compared to average. Benefits are satisfactory, but needs more improvement. Upper managers needs to interact more with low level details before making decisions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

overall great company to work and alot of potentials but it can only be released if upper managers can open more direct communications with people doing the work so that they have all the details and facts straight instead of relying on their supervisors.

Former Employee - Field Service in Madera, CA

I worked at John Bean Technologies

    Pros

    Good pay, opportunity to travel
Great incentives / benefits for example the company will help pay for a gym membership, tuition assistance, discounts at tons of partners, but you have to ask to find out about these benefits and you also have to beg and plea to find out how to get the tuition assistance that is if you have time to go to school.

    Cons

Lack of time off, on call 24/7 (even now that I don't work for the company anymore), lots of busy work, unnecessary travel, two service guys would travel to each other's back yard when they lived across country.
Traveler's insurance will not cover incidents that occurred while on travel unless it was during working hours. (At lest this is what I was told when I tried to make a clam.)
Management will not inform you when you make a mistake regarding pay when it's in the company's favor, but will be the first to let you know if you make a mistake in your favor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start thinking about your employees instead of making money, when you charge an extra 10% for expenses it's great to make that extra money, but there is no need to send a service guy to Cali from across country just to send one from California back. If the service guy wants to go visit great but check with them first, cause most of the time they just got home from a 3 week trip and would like to spend some time at home.

Listless company with little innovation or future

I worked at John Bean Technologies

    Pros

Benefits and pay are above industry norms in most areas.

    Cons

This business will slowly wither on the vine over the next few years. The management isn't investing in innovation: New products aren't given investment and support. The long-term strategy seems to be to purchase innovative businesses, but they can't get the pipeline engaged to actually do anything. The few businesses they've purchased in the last 10 years have been complete wipe-outs due to poor execution.

The company also seems to have no discernible succession plan anymore. They used to do it pretty well, but since the split with FMC senior management has deprioritized this. Lately, they've had to lay off a lot of North American employees (even at successful business units), simply can't lay off anyone in less successful Europe operations: They need to show shareholders cost reductions without taking big restructuring charges. At they same time, they keep adding overhead staff in Chicago and it's not really clear to anyone else what they actually do.

It's a shame to see a company with a 100+ year history of success imploding like this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are some good businesses to work for here, but they're simply mismanaged. This company needs to go to a PE firm so they can strip out the dead weight.
