I have been working at John Crane full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you can afford to live on minimal salary, pay ridiculous insurance premiums and be treated like a child, then John Crane is for you!

    Cons

The Director of Operations recently promised a "reward" for all employees if our plant could go 3 months without a safety incident. On the eve of the 3 month deadline, he sent an e-mail stating that we achieved our goal and that all employees would be entitled to free ice cream and popcorn in the cafeteria. The next morning we find out that a pressurized tank blew up in the shop that evening, injuring one employee. The director sent out another e-mail stating that because there was an injury, the employees would not be getting their free ice cream and popcorn! You can't make this stuff up, folks!!!

    Advice to Management

    Resign! All of you.

    Pros

Birthday holiday, good 401k, other than that not much, decent pay. Decent safety program when not used in lies to employees.

    Cons

Top heavy on management, micro management of everyone, starts a lot of improvement projects but gets easily sidetracked with nonsense, management lies to employees, merit raises the same across the board and always very low, management treat employees with low regards, in a bid to save a few bucks management has done away with family interaction, many clueless employees that have tenure and have learnt to work system, company pushes to run as if it is located in the UK, mary new employees out of school that do not get trained properly. Narrow industry in fossil fuels, treats employees as a number, not a person... Etc.

    Advice to Management

Look and listen to your common employees, be honest with your employees, stop with the fluff because employees see through it all.

I have been working at John Crane full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

can't find one good thing to say about management

    Cons

benefits too expensive, high deductible, management don't care about people, no way you can advance in the field even with diploma- only with "backing", no future

    Advice to Management

change your behavior- you are not Gods

    Pros

If you want a job where you will go nowhere and make no more money than when you started-John Crane is the place for you. Also you must enjoy getting talked down to and totally unappreciated

    Cons

there is absolutely no way to let other people know just how terrible this job is. Its a total waste of time and you should by all means continue searching for another job-anything would be better-A fluffer for the porn industry would be better honestly.

    Advice to Management

Realize that you are unneeded and your direct reports probably know far more than you. Your company has a terrible reputation in the industry for a good reason. This is an awful job and I wouldn't suggest it to my worst enemy

I have been working at John Crane full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great teamwork among departments to get the job done. Investing in the infrastructure to maintain the building and the image of the company. Engineering is top notch that gives John Crane a competitive advantage over its competitors. Management is respectful in their business dealings with their direct reports.

    Cons

Need to standardize processes -- different departments use different methods/processes to do the same task. No holiday bonus.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the teamwork emphasis but focus more on standardizing procedures so processes are consistent. Consider a holiday bonus -- it goes a long way in improving the morale of the employee.

I worked at John Crane full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There were absolutely no pros, in my opinion. I left as soon as I found another position at a fortune 100 company.

    Cons

-Management is insulting -Leadership lacking (to elaborate - people are in higher positions due to politics) -Systems are lacking basic infrastructure to communicate w/ one another (everything is manual) -No organization or concrete vision/mission -No work/life balance -If you have allergies or asthma, be careful, the building is old and has mold.

    Advice to Management

Promote people based on credentials and experience. DO NOT insult people.

I worked at John Crane full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly people and no stress. John Crane is an incompetent company but they are always going to be stable because of their stable industry.

    Cons

Don't make a career at this company. Everyone here is looking to leave and for good reason. Compensation is terrible and even in a good year, those pay raises often don't meet inflation. Benefits are the worst in the industry and the pension program ended 5 years ago. Most older employees here are just binding there time till retirement. The culture is toxic because John Crane time & time treat their employees with no respect

    Advice to Management

All the hardworking employees have left. Only people left are waiting to cash out there pension. Make the pay raises based merited of the supervisor's reviews. Why are the raises just random numbers assigned by upper upper management. The supervisor needs to have say in the matter.
