I have been working at John Crane full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There really aren't many pros. You can work your 8 hours and go home to your family IF you're not in management. The people are truly enjoyable to work with, below the management level. It's a sense of "We're all in this together".

    Cons

Salaries are so bad, that even new employees fresh out of college don't want to come here. The ones that do are gone within a year. Benefits get worse each year. Health insurance premiums are horrible. Management takes no responsibility for their failings. It's always the people below them that are at fault.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current management is so inept that no amount of advice would ever help. They need to clean house from President on down through the operations managers.

I worked at John Crane full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly people and no stress. John Crane is an incompetent company but they are always going to be stable because of their stable industry.

    Cons

Don't make a career at this company. Everyone here is looking to leave and for good reason.

Compensation is terrible and even in a good year, those pay raises often don't meet inflation.

Benefits are the worst in the industry and the pension program ended 5 years ago. Most older employees here are just binding there time till retirement.

The culture is toxic because John Crane time & time treat their employees with no respect

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All the hardworking employees have left. Only people left are waiting to cash out there pension.

Make the pay raises based merited of the supervisor's reviews. Why are the raises just random numbers assigned by upper upper management. The supervisor needs to have say in the matter.

I have been working at John Crane full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Design engineering was interesting. Learned about hydraulics and component design. Many hats, design, analysis, test, customer support, customer visits.

    Cons

Would like to have been on more customer sites, installing product, trouble-shooting performance issues. That is the best way to understand the customer and the performance of the product.

I have been working at John Crane full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You can put in your 40 hours and be done without too much pressure.

    Cons

Pay is ironically lowest in the industry, considering they are the "industry leader" in sealing. Benefits are being stripped away little by little. They're now trying to bribe employees by offering $3,000 for referring qualified talent. Talk about desperation! And why are all the positive reviews on here from FORMER employees???

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat the people lining your pockets with RESPECT! Why are so many people quitting? Open your eyes.

I have been working at John Crane full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Its a job that pays the bills.

    Cons

As a machinist for several years, I have witnessed and been a part of the madness on the ground floor. I remember one situation; the maintenance men removing several machines and shipping them to Mexico. The respect of a simple communication to give a machinist advance notice; was none. The result, a very nervous and angry employee; not knowing if he will no longer be working without notice. Company moral is at its lowest. It is very dissatisfying to see the company hire unqualified supervisors and lead-men; The promotion within is none existent. The communication between employees and management is no longer an open dialogue. Too many rules and changes to list; some are laughingly questionable. Over focus on disciplinary actions rather than the rewards on the job. In our meetings, there is a constant verbal threat of losing your job.

I have been working at John Crane full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Very family oriented. Flexible working environment with understanding managers as long as you meet deadlines and execute projects on schedule. Made great friends here and was in direct communication with my department manager and director quite often. Opportunity for training and career development here.

    Cons

Was expected to work upwards of 70 hour work week or do whatever it took to get my job done. The position was slightly mis-represented. The work load grew on a local level as well as on a nationwide level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employees to evaluate and prioritize their own projects. Stop micro managing. Executives - step out of your offices every once in a while to take a look at manufacturing employees moral (not good).
