“Not for those looking to greatly advance their careers in research”
Former Employee – worked at John Wayne Cancer Institute part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Good benefits, good collaboration with St. John's Health Center, solid research program.
Cons – Somewhat difficult to advance career. Upper management has no understanding of what is happening throughout the institute in terms of politics and funding. Some people who don't contribute very much to the institute are still mysteriously employed. This is demoralizing.
Advice to Senior Management – Find trustworthy CEO's with a solid understanding of the importance of research to the Institute. There is a disconnect between Development and Research programs. Need to get feedback from PI's and employees about what they need to do their jobs.
