The particular job I did was hot, dangerous ( I was working with molten lead ) and potentially hazardous to your health ( the lead again).

    I worked at Johnson Controls

    Pros

Large Company with Large Company Benefits

    Cons

Working environment tied to who knows who. Not business. Goal to to make sure all the executives and managers are taken care of, with those who are actually doing the work are marginalized. This front and center. Look at this as time to get experience...then out of there. All this promotes an environment of not moving the business it seems forward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice..just new "out of Milwaukee" executive management. In place is by good ole boy method...recipe for long term just the same.

I worked at Johnson Controls part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Stable company, flexible work environment. Great work life balance and educational opportunities within

    Cons

Too bureaucratic with policies and procedures, have a tendency to not be open to new ideas
Tendency for groups to be in cliques. No clear route to advance if you work outside of the corporate location

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not to focus on one singular thing for the company. Keep things moving and open.

    Cons

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Thankfully management is easy to work with.
Safety is a high priority with our group.
Ability to plan my own days and work freely.

    Cons

No overtime, lots of windshield time, limited resources.
A-Lot of middle management. My position is at the bottom and I have 3 managers I have to report to.
Looming divesture does not bode well with no information from management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't put the cart before the horse, it makes the horse angry.

Former Employee - Integration Specialist in Saint Louis, MO

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

HVAC products are very successful in the market. JCI management has been purchasing companies during a recession, in my opinion a good indicator of a solid product and market niche with long term planning by senior leaders.

    Cons

Politics!!!! If you are an employee of a department associated with headquarters, but are not located in Milwaukee, then you are a second class citizen. As the old saying goes, politics is just a vain attempt to make stupidity look like a virtue. Politics caused a waste of millions of dollars of development money with literally no revenue received due to a very poor product planning approach.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get over yourselves, roll up your sleeves, work hard, and use common sense. The population of smart employees does not end at the Milwaukee city limits.
