    Pros

The small college is a great place to get one-on-one attention. The staff and students alike are engaging, interesting, and motivated.

    Cons

It's a community college, there is only so much of the "bright lights, big city" that can reach this conservative establishment.

    Pros

Despite the inherent drawbacks of adjunct instruction, JCCC is a great place to teach. Outstanding training is available, top-notch technical support if offered, and, compared to other institutions, the pay is reasonable.

    Cons

No access to insurance for part-time professors. Little to no opportunity for full-time positions.

PT is great for students-not much room for advancement past that.

    Pros

Great place to work as a student. There are good "benefits" (not insurance based) awarded to 'part time regulars'. If you take classes at JCCC, it is an easy transition from work to studies and vice versa. It provides students with a wonderful opportunity to get to know their peers and professors from a different perspective. It also really helps keep students in touch with all available resources, which could be beneficial to their higher educational goals.

    Cons

Not much to advance too-unless you are in a professional position, do not count on any advancement, acknowledgment, or change to full-time status. The college does not seem to want to shell out any more benefits that are costly to them. Lots of empty promises from upper management persona who are almost always less educated then the person working for them.

    Advice to Management

It doesn't look good when you are in charge of dining services for JCCC (equip with four full coffee bars and three kitchens) and you are promoting external vendors (like QT coffee). It is bad for the image, and bad for morale.

Also-your staff are human beings, and deserve to be treated like so. The "trickle down" effect is out dated and, quite frankly, insulting. Assumptions being made about a 5-second visual of a moment, and then complaining to management rather then asking the individuals involved is degrading and shifts the blame to someone else. The "wait for your father to get home" approach is childish. If there is a problem, it is EVERYBODY'S problem and should be treated as so.

    Pros

There are really good benefits of working there. People are nice to work with. It is like a close community that helps to build new relationships

    Cons

I was balancing work with my studies, so it was a little bit of challenge.

    Pros

They provide excellent benefits. As an employee you have free access to a well equipped rec center, library, and online training courses. All management in my department were friendly and approachable. The campus is a very pleasant environment. The on-boarding process was thorough and made me excited to work there. I received a raise, even during a hiring freeze.

    Cons

I would hear of conflicts in other departments and administration that sounded petty and political. They often have hiring freezes, but continue to post job opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Focus on communicating a strong message and direction to employees, rather than entertaining petty conflicts that make you seem ineffectual.

    Pros

The people and students. The facilities. The salary and benefits are very good. The working conditions are excellent and people care about each other.

    Cons

Very top-down management. This means that the people who work most with the students get to have the least say in what should happen and in improvements that need to be made. Poor communication about the overall direction of the organization and any future plans. Wants to be innovative but doesn't ever really change the way it does things.

    Advice to Management

Share more with the employees about what the organization is about and about how their contributions are valued. But don't just say that they are valued. Show them by letting them contribute and make things better.

    Cons

Leadership doesn't get rid of low performers.

    Advice to Management

Leadership needs to deal with low performance issues.

    Pros

The staff is very friendly and always helpful.
They are very progressive in their business practices and apply the latest leadership philosophies.

    Cons

There seems to be several part-time instructors, which is an advantage since they bring real world experience, but it is difficult for the instructors to collaborate on projects.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing to be best in class and continue the development of faculty and adjunct instructors.
