Almost all employees were helpful and readily assisted with orientation and training

    Library Page (Former Employee)

ProsStrong emphasis on serving library patrons
    Extrememely organized
Emphasis to improve library services by implementing new technology
    Concsistent support from supervisor

    ConsInconsistent policies concerning overall operations
Improvement needed in coordinating the various departments within the library and between the various branches

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is a need for innovative thinking from top management. They seem to realize that libraries are being replaced by other media, but are at a loss as to how to offer unique services that are not available on line

Great Coworkers, Great Benefits, mediocre Management, Bad HR

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Franklin, IN

ProsFantastic Benefits as far as vacation, Personal TIme and Sick time, Great coworkers that work hard and are good people

ConsHR is split up between being hired out to a semi-retired employee and a payroll worker with no academia or real world HR experience previous to being promoted. There's not much room for personal or professional growth. If you get a bad manager, you're stuck, HR will do nothing to help you out in settling disagreements or disputes..

Advice to Senior ManagementHire a Full Time HR person with proper industry experience/background and academia credentials to match within the human resources industry, provide managerial reviews by staff, even if a general gauge of how happy they are. Hire an IT manager with IT background/credentials and not just promote the defacto employee that's been there the longest in the department.

Librarian at Johnson County Public Library

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsWhen I worked there, the Johnson County Public Library offered a good benefits package and ample vacation time. The salary was adequate.

ConsMy particular experience was not the best I've had. It may have just been a personality clash between me and my supervisor.

Advice to Senior ManagementI liked that they supported committee work, which allowed employees from different branches to work together. This was really good for professional development as well.
