Pros
Great company to work for...Management is fair with their employees. Good opportunity for advancement in career path. Would recommend to others.
Cons
Working out on the factory floor is very hot. You better be prepared to sweat like crazy in the summer.
Advice to Senior Management
No real suggestions here. They are doing a great job. No complaints.
Pros
Great health benefits
Pension (at least that is the line given as of now)
Industry standard 401K match
Management is reasonable in allowing for time off
Cons
management is rude and has outdated strategy...err...no strategy
Business goals are routinely missed and are only talking points. Sr. management refuses to spend money on training, developing, building engineers/business.
Absurd information asymmetry between management and engineering
lots of travel and long hours with little compensation, time-off, or recognition.
Advice to Senior Management
Share information, the idea of management retaining power (and position) through information asymmetry is outdated and a poor business model. Pursue high growth markets. Listen to employees when they suggest change. Take a management course. Train and develop your engineers, they leave every few years.
Pros
Excellent health plan with minimum cost to employees and reasonable copays
Very diverse workforce
Great people
Adequate physical resources to do your job
Cons
Very poor vision plan and dental plan limits are not competitive
Senior experienced employees are valued more for their length of service than their actual contributions or willingess to accept change
Communication appears poor between all levels of management and is very poor with direct reports
Pay is lower than average and raises from promotions are very minimal (3-4%)
Performance evaluations are late and regular feedback is rarely given
Analysis to determine actual headcount requirements doesn't appear to be done
Work/life balance is poor; significant amounts of regular overtime from some exempt employees
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate and don't assume your direct reports are passing along information.
Pros
Overall it was a pleasant work environment with pleasant people.
Company is doing it's best to go Green.
It has a variety of industries to choose from and transfer to.
That's the best I can come up with.
Cons
They do not conduct a performance review at the time it is due.
For such a large and successful company, benefits are poor in comparison with similar or smaller firms.
Your vacation and PTO are run together. If you are sick, it comes out of your vacation. They expect you to work endless overtime hours and yet asking for personal time off is like pulling teeth.
Minimal vision insurance. Dental insurance yearly max is less than typical for a large firm.
Human resources is slow and unreliable. (corporate in PA)
More into demoting than promoting at all levels. Years of loyalty and service means nothing.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve the benefits. Conduct performance reviews on time.
Keep employees in the loop. Don't say one thing and then turn around and do another.
Pros
Good to nurture technical skills by having a global knowledge network & frequent technical interactions. It is a good company for research graduates.
Cons
Limited in scope in terms of career growth and quite conservative in promotions. Mentorship or Personal guidance in developing business skills are not available.
Advice to Senior Management
Apart from the frequent guidance in the technical aspects of the job, guidance in the business aspects will help one establish a challenging career. So change is needed along this line.
Pros
Flexibility in hours and asking for personal time off due to the amount of travel required for job.
Cons
Very poor management skills, training program and expectations.
Pros
efficant system is the best aspect
Cons
respect employee needs to be improved
Advice to Senior Management
respect employee
Pros
Lots of opportunities to do a wide variety of things. Very flexible and understanding in terms of work/life balance. Small team so frequently see a project from start to finish. Great benefits package. Good team atmosphere.
Cons
Can sometimes feel like direction keeps changing. Can be very stressful at times. Pay is on low side (but not horrible) and organization is very flat, meaning career advancement is difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
I think overall leadership is doing very well, but could do better to pick a direction and stick with it as opposed to continually changing which projects have priority.
Pros
Great Benefits, Generally Nice People
Cons
Seems Like you really need to screw up to move up
JM should independently review local management to benchmark qualifications
Advice to Senior Management
An accent should not be a prequalifier for management skills. Understanding the local culture, laws and manerism will boost both loyalty and moral.
Pros
Great benefits, Bonuses, and average pay. It depends on the job. If you don't mind spending 80 % of your time monitoring a production line and performing routine duties such as weighing parts then the entry level production engineer is a good place to start out of college to get experience in a manufacturing plant.
Cons
Loud, poor communication, messy on the production lines. Many union operators are a pain to work with. They are always trying to get away with doing the bare minimum and get very angry if they feel the production lines are running too fast. They can get spiteful and start damaging parts which makes the engineer on the line look bad.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a more active energy savings team and have union operators be more responsible and conscientious and in return give them donuts
