Johnson & Johnson Sales Representative:   (Past Employee - 2007)

1 of 1 people found this helpful

Pros

- Great Benefits
- Company Car
- The online company store
- Well known company
- Good senior management communication with salesforce.

Cons

- Poor Salary
- Risk of being laid off
- Over management, (managers will routinely schedule ride alongs and multi-day field visits)
- Lack of innovation

Advice to Senior Management

Johnson & Johnson has a very good brand name, that is one of their few competitive advantages. They need to develop more products internally and quit relying on their wallet for new innovations.

Johnson & Johnson Auditor Trainee in Moscow (Russia):   (Current Employee)

Pros

It was really important to me to find first job in my professional sphere. As I just have graduated the 3rd course in the university I was to obligatory to find my first job field in audit.

Cons

Maybe the most important downside is just that it is really difficult to find any opportunities for career (audit) in the company.

Advice to Senior Management

Nothing to tell, all is well organized, especially what is connected with Russian office in Moscow, really good managers, to my mind

Johnson & Johnson Anonymous:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Good benefits & pay
Friendly coworkers, somewhat "cookie cutter"
If you get in the right department, there are some really smart and dedicated employees
They try to allow employees flexible hours/telecommunting

Cons

Too many working hours, understaffed
Some departments have lots of talkers, not a lot of doers
The company's large size makes it impossible to get any decisions made, or the decision makers are so far removed they don't understand the issues well enough.

Advice to Senior Management

Eliminate fuzzy communication about where the company is headed. Understand where resources are needed and invest in preventing burnout (especially in your best employees - at all levels)

Pros

Pay, prestige, great products at the company store, work from home as needed, old-time J&Jers, ability to move to different companies

Cons

very political, clueless and self-serving CIO and minions, would prefer more promote-from-within, ax always seems to hang over your head

Advice to Senior Management

Quit trying to reinvent yourself. Spread into more consumer products. Pfizer consumer acquisition was the best thing done in ages. Quit milking pharm

Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical R&D in Raritan, NJ:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Great work/life balance is just about the only attractive aspect of working for J&J over the past year and a half.

Recent Pharma licensing and acquisition deals seem promising

Cons

This year has been marked by distraction from a restructuring that has taken too long to complete; it completely killed productivity at least in the Pharmaceutical R&D sector. Unfortunately, the Pharm sector goes through an organizational realignment just about every 2 years.

Compensation is ok, but lower compared to Pharma Industry average.

Inept management (clueless scientific folks with no business acumen) in Pharma R&D organization

Advice to Senior Management

More aggressive licensing deals and less organizational realignment

Johnson & Johnson Project Manager:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

Benefits and pay, including discounts on JnJ products are good. Company is huge so if you like a lot of fog around goals and objectives, this fits the bill.

Cons

Became part of JnJ when they bought the company I worked for. Original company went from a very teamwork oriented environment to being paranoid of layoffs. Many of the quality senior managers either jumped ship quickly or left after giving the Credo a shot and not seeing it being applied to their groups. New JnJ management came in and never bothered to take advantage of what our groups had to offer, just told them to do it like it's done at JnJ now. Was very hard to watch a company that was efficient and also enjoyable to work for get gutted and zombie'd out by huge corporate politics.

Advice to Senior Management

Promote more collaboration and teamwork at individual contributor level. When coming up with new strategies, don't be afraid to get input on how those might be implemented.

N/A

Pros

Good place when it comes to work and family

Cons

Horrible organization with TOOO much political ploying and status climbing taking place. If the company would focus on getting things right the first time instead of putting people in positions because of who they know and not what they know.

Advice to Senior Management

Sometimes going back to basics can make you more successful.

Ok to wokd

Pros

Good salary and there is a lot of flexibility in your day to day work schedule which I enjoy a lot

Cons

Not enough money and there does not seem to be a lot of opportunities to advance within the company and grow

Advice to Senior Management

I would advise that you all make sure that employees are fairly compensated and treated with respect and given a chance to grow.

Johnson & Johnson Project Lead in Raritan, NJ:   (Current Employee)

1 of 1 people found this helpful

Pros

Albeit more difficult in 2009 due to the overall economy, there are usually opportunities to rotate and change roles (if not careers) within the confines of J&J

Cons

Overall, J&J has some of the best senior management of any large corporation. Within certain disciplines and organizations in J&J that is unfortunately not the case. One of the best examples of poor senior management is with Information Technology. There are exceptions to this, but unfortunately too much poor management has been in IT for too long.

Advice to Senior Management

Rotate some skilled, successful, and senior managers into the more challenged parts of J&J including IT which is in need of assistance with developing an achievable strategy and not just figuring out how to reduce costs.

JNJ is OK

Pros

Great place during good times and in bad, they try to do things correctly however it gets tougher and tougher every year.

Cons

Advancement gets diffucult as you move up the ladder and switching between operating companies is hard to do.

Advice to Senior Management

always use the Credo and stay on the straight and narrow, do not get humg up in what the other pharma companies do.
