Former Employee – worked at Johnson & Wales University
Pros – good benefits
food
free parking
tuition assistance for children
peer friendships
Cons – top leaders focus only on money, not people
raises for top leaders, low pay for faculty
lip service - don't act on employees ideas
no knowledge sharing (silos)
lack of sincere recognition
inconsistent managerial styles, incompetence
lack of real, earned doctorates at top leader level
lack of strategic use of human resources, under appreciation of talent
weak support and little resources for development of people
top leaders are not available, don't know what's going on, don't make themselves available to students, staff, faculty for feedback.
very low trust culture: people afraid to speak truth
untrained deans and chairs
Advice to Senior Management – Bring in new thinking. Hire from outside, don't hand-pick puppets who think like you. Invite different thinking. Share some of those big salaries. Pay market wages. Don't pay everyone the same...pay for performance. Open positions to everyone. Stop in-breeding. Flatten your structure: trust you people. Stop assuming people are idiots and that only your hand-selected favorites know how to solve problems. Create a learning environment, open your doors. Get out of your towers. Let people make decisions. stop the top-down structural, cave-man-mentality. The power had shifted to customers, employees, and stakeholders. You can not control people anymore. Look at the world events.

Current Employee – been working at Johnson & Wales University
Pros – The job teaches professionalism for young students and how to work in a business office and conduct oneself in a professional manner
Cons – For a student assistant job, the department expects a lot from you. Many times it would feel like the student is doing far more work then the regular employees.
Advice to Senior Management – The duties of a student assistant has to be clearly defined and narrated. A task supposed to be done by a regular employee shouldnt be given to a student just because he/she is able to do it.

Current Employee – been working at Johnson & Wales University
Pros – The Office of Student Activities staff is made up of a lot of students that are fun to work with.
Cons – Hypocritical with work staff. The pro staff creates rules. Allows staff to break them but warns other staff for breaking.
Advice to Senior Management – Set a standard and follow it. To much hypocrisy in certain areas. Otherwise love Johnson & Wales University
