I worked at Jostens full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great team of highly educated and dedicated employees. Very advanced systems to collect data. Employees are accountable for their actions and trusted to make things happen.

    Cons

No job security. You are only as good as what you have done lately. Upper management does not take accountability for their actions. Employees are always on pins and needles wondering if they will be the next one cut.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

LIsten to your employees and stick up for them during the hard times!

I worked at Jostens full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great salary, great people to work with, great job.

    Cons

Lack of organization with the change in CEO, failure to acquire a competitor, agenda of their parent company are not in line, decline in product sales and innovation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to work on updating the business and changing the products and services like you have done in the past, to meet the needs of the current markets. If we're going to war in the middle east perhaps start making wartime aircraft components again.

I have been working at Jostens full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great pay and great benefits. Majority of my co-workers and supervisors are great to work with.

    Cons

No personal growth, lack of communication, enforced policies on only certain departments/ people, feeling of complete uncertainty of the direction of the company and if you will have a job the next day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication is horrible! No one never knows what's happening. My first day on the job I had no clue where I was supposed to go, who to speak with, rules and policies...

I worked at Jostens full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great history & traditions but society's changes have taken a toll on the core products. Great people

    Cons

2008 economic downtown has impacted sales as has a change in demand for the core products by young people. Troubling times ahead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your people that are or have been successful their position-whatever it is/was.

I worked at Jostens as a contractor for more than 10 years

    Pros

Marketing support, management support, unlimited commissions, great working environment in schools with the top kids

    Cons

Production mediocrity, pricing and policy issues, cut throat high level (C+) management who will attempt to screw you if possible through legal threats if they decide to not honor your contract. Luckily they did honor mine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen and value your top performers when they have complaints. They are only trying to help you succeed. Better yet, understand who are your loyal people and who screw you purposely. I for one never took advantage of you but I know many that did.

    I worked at Jostens full-time

    Pros

    - Good Pay
    - Promote Within

    Cons

There is a trend with this company that is not good for employee morale. About every other quarter there is a random batch of lay offs and nobody is safe. Then they hire on a bunch of 'new blood' for the same positions they just got rid of. Then they do another round of layoffs. It's very shady and has a lot of the negative stereotypes of corporate America.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Communicate better with your employees.

I have been working at Jostens full-time

    Pros

Good salary and benefits and life work balance

    Cons

Jostens is cutting off heads. The company is getting rid of the long term employees and people with the most knowledge. The workplace is stressed out as everyone thinks they are going to be the next one laid off! The parent company Visant appears to be wanting to get rid of Jostens and invest elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your most loyal competent employees instead of getting rid of them.

I worked at Jostens full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits (health insurance, life insurance)

    Cons

People play politics and advancement or preventing being laid off is based on knowing who's ass to kiss.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people based on how hard they work and give opportunities to the hardest workers instead of playing favorites.

I worked at Jostens full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good job, good pay, good benefit package, and hours.

    Cons

Promotes more by yrs. of service than skill. Don't consider changes that employees make.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at employee's skills and not just yrs. of service. Hire more skilled people from outside of the company.
