    I worked at July Systems

    Pros

    - Good culture in company.

    - Pay is fine.

    - You take good responsibilities you get great opportunities.

    - Flexible Timing.

    Cons

    no release process set.

All it turns off is qa every thing is manual and this has been influenced to rest of qa peers and their juniors.

whenever you release anything to them, you will first get the latest binaries from live you have to sync with live and give back.

instead of updating .jar or .war files to production they will update individual .class file on every release.

On every release even though there is enough documentation, release notes etc will ask you to sit next to QA. compare the binaries justifying why this if condition is removed why this while loop is changed to for loop etc. which is most irritating.

if you release any major release they will at least take more then 10 months to roll out. if the development has taken 1 - 1.5 months. even though there is enough documentation and release notes.

Manual testing for the Win, they dont have any automation skill set at all.

individual developers are skillful but due to limitation of the skill set in qa, products are not going out or at least very much delayed.

If you join as qa there is no career growth, you are stuck with the lot of manual work take binaries from live, sync, sent 1 mail a day, and stay in the same skill set level, no exposure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire good QA Head, who at least have more knowledge then comparing binaries otherwise you will end up having your products die in code control itself.

I have been working at July Systems full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Free food & good salary.

    Cons

Nothing to motivate you to do more and give it your all. Sometimes it feels as if their is a Zameendar farmer relationship. As if they are doing us a favour by hiring us. This company doesnt posses the new atmosphere found in modern IT companies as the founders of the company have never worked anywhere else. they start companies, then sell it and start another which is great and all but they never read a textbook on employee management relationship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. You are not doing a favour by hiring us. Give the due credit to our respective expertise.
    2. Just because the great idea is not yours don't kill it. That can't be good for the growth of the company. Listen to others ideas or give constructive advice, don't keep your wisdom to yourselves it doesn't help.
    3. Free food doesn't gain your employees trust. The management needs to get off the high horse and get down to earth and tell it as it is. Atleast then those who want to work here will appreciate your honesty and give the company a chance and try to improve things.
    4. Be a little less Diplomatic. Some times too much of it kills innovation and open minded thinking.

    Pros

    1. Very healthy office - use stairs to reach 2nd/4th floor instead of using ill designed lifts.
    2. Lots of places to have "Gobar chai" and 2nd hand smoke - canteen at the building terrace, tea stalls outside the office.
    3. Development 2.0 - forget working in Java, you will be working with class files (get binary from service, decompile, make change, compile, deploy ==> rinse/repeat).
    4. No source control repo - forget pesky commit/checkin, checkout, merge, resolve-conflict.
    5. Manual testing for the Win!

    Cons

Are you kidding me! Pros far outweigh Cons (which I cannot even think of!)
