    I worked at Jump Associates full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Career opportunities: Great!

    If you want to work with strategic visionaries and are okay with "living to work" for a time, you might just love it here. After a few years here you can land great positions elsewhere and almost write your own ticket. Or...there are lots of opportunity to grow into new roles if you are a good fit!

    Location: Amazing & easy to reach!

    Jump has a great office right by the San Mateo Cal Train and. It's very bright and sunny and has a vibrant, responsible startup feel to it. The people by and large are amazing, funny and super-smart.

    Culture: Good if you are the right "fit"!

    The culture at Jump has been specifically crafted & fostered over the years. Snacks are there to keep your blood sugar levels up without breaking stride. Lots of collaboration and exposure to new intellectual property.

    Leadership: Super-smart!

    The CEO is incredibly bright, an inspirational group speaker, and personally drives a lot of business to the company.

    Cons

    Work/Life Balance:

    Standard hours are long and sometimes unpredictable, expect 50+/week, flowing over into weekends when project crunch time comes around.

    Senior Management:

    Some areas for improvement exist around clarity of direction and communication coming from upper management. Great work would go unacknowledged when folks would deliver what was asked for because the CEO's vision would change in the interim but not be communicated. Frustration over this was known to bring people to tears at times.

    Upper Management did not always embody the cultural values required of the rest of the company.

    Sales and Upper Management folks were basically the same group of people, so there was no one to protect project teams from burnout when Sales would shorten a project timeline in order to make a sale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Move towards less overlap between Sales and Upper Management to allow unbiased oversight of Sales. Higher accountability from sales will reduce team burnout risk and support high-quality project outcomes.

    Foster better partings with those Externs not offered a permanent position. It is a missed opportunity to let them move on with feelings such as being discarded, as I have heard from several. In a few years you want them excited to drive any innovation work their company has towards Jump.

    Interesting place to challenge your thinking, but maybe not the best run business around.

    I worked at Jump Associates

    Pros

    * A work approach that is a mix of design thinking and strategy consulting
    * Great work space and office perks like fruit and snacks

    Cons

    * Lack of direction
    * Lack of incentives
    * Somewhat "stuck up" and obsessed with their proprietary methodology
    * Small size makes them very vulnerable to economic outlook

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * Improve business leadership
    * Be more open to outsiders challenging your thinking and approach - use it!
    * Figure out how to integrate new hires with experience beyond college new grad level
