I worked at Juniper Networks full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I've worked at Juniper multiple times, in multiple positions (all were technical). Overall I can say that the company is very focused on technology and customer experience. The options to grow are tremendous and Juniper actively encourages employees to expand their knowledge.

    Cons

Travel policy is suboptimal (Glassdoor censors a bit). No business, not even on long-haul flights. Traffic in and out the Sunnyvale office is absolutely horrible. Food could be cheaper in the cafeteria.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More bonuses? :)

I worked at Juniper Networks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Juniper is a generous company with liberal time off policies, much better than average compensation and great benefits. The sales team and sales leadership are well educated, experienced and in my experience a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

The senior leadership has been disconnected, always scrambling to be as relevant to the market leader, their number one competitor Cisco Systems. Leadership changes are abrupt and poorly communicated with long pauses to the team, before a strategic direction is chosen. Juniper doesn't demand discipline from it's employees to support the company vision, leading to loss of confidence and market momentum. Knee jerk movement in and out of markets, products areas and go-to market methods has historically eroded customer and partner confidence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership needs to hammer out a compelling long term vision and recruit support at all levels of the organization. i.e. "What's in the best interest of Juniper?" Communication is one of several cornerstone qualities that separates the good, high potential organizations from those that consistently perform, the truly great.

I worked at Juniper Networks full-time

    Pros

it used to be a fabulous tech darling in silicon valley and had some bold developments in the past. some used to be smart people are still around and waiting to retire.

    Cons

they have been hiring and firing randomly every quarter. Lots of projects are kicked off and cancelled for no reason. it is busy like hell and the company is still not doing well. it is a very political environment.

Constant re-organization, real-estate consolidation, looming layoffs, poor management and product direction

I worked at Juniper Networks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pays well, good benefits, somewhat empowered. Good facilities and tools

    Cons

PLM did not know the business and could not make decisions, indecisiveness led to wasted efforts and was late to market. New CEO is chopping the business. Tons of wasted resources on SW architectures that were scrapped at the expense of programs with viable business. Poor management, conviction and execution.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give business' that are critical to the growth of the company a chance to develop. Nurture and fund them. Some of the business' that you have decided to exit will end up being a huge mistake and end up costing the company much more to re-enter than continuing investment would ever had cost.

I have been working at Juniper Networks full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Entry level to mid management have the best intentions, are smart, and generally do not play politics. Diverse workforce and collaborative environment. Good pay.

    Cons

New CEO has not made changes needed at the Exec Team level as it is very dysfunctional (Product, HR, Sales). But he is still new, and can only hope he grows into it. Very passive aggressive environment and upper management does not want to hear the truth or disagree over direction.....people who do well or stick around "play the game", especially at the more senior levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make some changes at the Exec Team level and don't be afraid of activist investor groups.
