    Top notch firm

    Paralegal (Former Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsI appreciate well qualified and well educated employers and employees.

ConsJust a number after the merge but it's business in 2009.

    Advice to Senior ManagementNo complaints.

    Staff is Second Class

    (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsPay is good and work life balance is ok

ConsUnless you're a lawyer, they don't care about you. Unless you're a lawyer staff is Second Class. The mangers are filled with false promises. Training was non-apparent, basically had to train myself with their software and file system. The Communication is horrible.. The line between staff and attorney are clear.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet the staff have a confidential review of Admin and actually do something about it (but doubtful that will ever happen)

Ok to be here for a couple of years

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsThe company name sounds cool. I always tell people the "Gates" is from Bill Gates's father. The offices are in good locations and expensive buildings. Colleagues are all well educated.

ConsThe lack of culture. Everyone was busy getting things done in their own offices and don't interact much with each other. The focus is heavily on the bottom line and the lawyers. The staff don't really get much attention.

How well you do depends on who you're friends with

    Non-legal (Former Employee)
    Pittsburgh, PA

ProsGreat benefits, excellent pay, decent tools to work with

ConsInconsistent management throughout the firm. It's as if you work for different companies instead of different departments - there are pockets of good areas. Extremely questionable use of promotions - sometimes promotions are based on merit, other times it completely depends on who you've done favors.

Advice to Senior ManagementActually listen to your employees

Overall a good experience, especially as a first job out of college.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsGood HR, talented people, and they did focus on career development.

ConsMight be obvious, but unless you're an attorney, you're second-class.

    Internal Audit Internship

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Pittsburgh, PA

ProsI really enjoyed this internship and I learned a lot. I think this would be a good place to start as a first step into the world of accounting. Everyone was very friendly and willing to help. They do have a beautiful office!

ConsWork is fairly monotonous and repetitive, but that is expected in internal audit. They have a high turnover rate and compensation could be better.

    OK place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBenefits, Time Off, Friendly people in the firm

ConsNo Bonus, Small raises, if any; micromanage atmosphere in the docketing department

Advice to Senior ManagementDocketers should receive Christmas Bonus'. We work our butts off for the entire IP department for all our offices and still receive nothing.

Only work here if you hate yourself.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

Prosthe PTO time and the benefits

ConsThis firm is the epitome of an evil corporation. Here are just a few things that will happen if you start working here: You will receive almost no training, and will be barked at when you don't instantly remember every step of every procedure. You will be instructed to perform a task in a different way every time a new person tells you to do it. You will attend meetings wherein the firm brags about how well they are doing financially, then told you aren't getting a raise because "the firm had a bad year." You will have ex-waitresses promoted above you because they flirt with the top brass. You will NEVER get a Christmas bonus. You will be forced to use PTO time if you come in literally one minute late. Your soul will begin to die and you will go into work miserable every single day. You have been warned.
