    Pros

Great co-workers; mutual support and internal communication.

    Cons

The company is run with a 70's IT-centric mentality. The overly paranoid security needs of IT supersede the needs of the business; what should take a qualified IT support person, a couple of minutes, can take hours or days because of the security hurdles. IT support has one hand tied behind their back, at every turn. No concern for effective systems. Very little opportunity for growth

    Advice to Management

Listen to people in the field; enable your talented people to work for you, not against you.

    Pros

Some of the staff are really great people, that's about it.

    Cons

If you want to work with technical people when you're dealing with technical issues do not work here. The Non-technical leadership feel that IT staff do not need to be technical which causes the heavy work to be placed on the remaining technical people. This causes the staff that know what they are doing to work tremendous hours of overtime for a place that doesn't even pay fair market value. Also, be prepared to be directly lied to on a daily basis, whether it be about future projects, staffing levels, pay/raises, goals, or just about anything you could ask. You will not get an honest answer out of the leadership. Usually nobody in the chain of command of a team has any back history in the subject so they are unable to speak for, defend, or properly align a team beneath them. They are unaware of the type of work or workload an IT engineer conducts. Combine this with the hostile company culture which many vendors have labeled meetings as "a UFC match where everyone wants to beat up everyone" and the end result is an insane amount of stress. Because the leadership is extremely non-technical they cannot describe what their expectations are of you for any given project or task, but good lord you will know if you fail to meet the expectations that they weren't able to provide. The company is also trying to create a Fun culture which is failing miserably. The Fun events are far more un-fun that just doing your daily work. They are extremely forced and staff is "strongly encouraged" to participate, which basically just defers your workload to after hours. Although many of the fun events take place after hours as well. Speaking of after hours work, get used to that. I don't mean on a reasonable once or twice a week level, I mean several times a week and weekends because the place is understaffed and wants way too much out of the employees that do a good job. Work-Life balance simply does not exist here. Long story short, do not work here if you are in IT. There are better places with better pay and hours and nicer, more knowledgeable leadership.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the non-technical leadership in IT. It's destroying the lives of your employees.

    Pros

The people are amazing! Location is great and people genuinely want to do the right thing. The culture is wonderful and they are starting to get more involved with their employees. Work life balance for most is fantastic.

    Cons

Training is lacking for those in newly appointed roles. It is disheartening because you believe that upper management wants you to succeed and grow, however, they don't seem to want to offer the training and guidance. But as soon as you produce work that shows the current level of your knowledge or skill set, they blame you and don't take ownership for not developing you.

    Advice to Management

LISTEN to your employees when it comes to their own development and growth!!!

    Pros

I got to work with a lot of great people.

    Cons

If you are in IT, and you are considering this company (ADESA or KAR), think again. Leadership in IT is non-technical and has no respect for their engineers or working knowledge of running a highly specialized technical team. I have worked at this company for 5 years and it has gotten exponentially worse over my time there. The non-technical management expects at least 45 hours per week from their engineers (Network, Server, Storage, etc.), but will not blink an eye or compensate us if we work 60 hours each per week consistently for months on end. They provide no real benefits and their salaries are lower than anyone else in the market. Management (the non-technical ones) provides direction, but is not competent enough to execute any plans; however, they completely expect you to follow their "direction" even though it has not been communicated or written in policy. The environment changes too frequently and never improves with the changes. They consistently lie to employees about raises and workload expectations only to find out that they do not care in any sense about the employee workload and do not honor raises that have been promised. Lastly, they have attempted to artificially create an atmosphere of fun; however, they are just creating a cult. Anyone that does not participate in "fun" after-hour work activities is treated differently and reported to management as such. This workplace is so difficult to have "fun" in because of the horrible toxic environment that they have created over the last several years. In addition, work/life balance is not respected. This artificial injection of "fun culture" is enough to drive anyone crazy. Stay away from this company! They are toxic and will ruin your personal life with stress.

    Advice to Management

Remove all non-technical management from Director and below. With a complex network as KAR's, it takes a lot of technical skill to mange and having non-technical management has driven (and will drive) technical employees out.

    Pros

In-house IT means there's a place for any specialty. IT as a whole is well organized for stability and efficiency.

    Cons

Support Services has sold its soul to the devil. The Director is either a pod person, a robot, or just the worst human being this side of serial killers. The old CIO told the entire company that support people belonged in a warehouse somewhere because they aren't worth the space in the building. The new CIO said "Change is good unless you resist it" and that is a direct, verbatim quote from an American man in 2013, not a dictator from Soviet Russia. Employees are now given a 42" workspace out of which they cannot venture even to seek assistance from another coworker regarding a customer ticket. The Director controls every item on every wall and all of the blinds on the windows. Sun in your eyes, too bad. Keep working. No decorations; no desk items. She overrides company policy and HR supports her. So while most salary people can take off <4hrs and not use PTO, Support people must use PTO for any occasion and must use it in 4hr chunks. Need an extra 30 minutes for a Dr's appt? 4hrs PTO. The Director cancelled the customer satisfaction surveys that used to help Support maintain a high level of Customer Satisfaction. Now the directive is to work 30 calls and 50 tickets a day no matter what that requires. All experts have been removed and everyone is a Tier 1 support analyst. Difficult application issues are no longer supported by experts but by any person who happens to answer the phone. And, remember, you cannot get up and ask for help or collaborate. Oftentimes, these complex application issues take hours of specialized investigation but with the strict ticket numbers people are forced to give them minimum daily attention over a long period of time instead of getting the issue resolved quickly. The Director is a pro at talking around questions. When I would ask her "What deficiency in our service is promoting the changes and how do these changes address those deficiencies" she could not give me a straight answer. Or a loopy answer. She repeats about being "world class" but cannot define what that means or what metrics show whether we are reaching that goal. I have NO problem with change, but I want to understand what the goal is and how we're getting there. I don't think that's unreasonable.

    Advice to Management

Go on a vision quest and find your soul. You lost it somewhere. Those fleshy robots are people and MANY studies show that happy people are productive people. You are destroying your company by making support miserable. When they are miserable and unable to fix things, the field is less efficient and more miserable. When the field is less efficient, you lose money. What you're doing is not only heartless, but bad business.

    Pros

I have a job while I look for another one.

    Cons

Your training program will start with the wolves because that is where they throw you on day one. If you are tired of working 14 hours a day you will have to set aside even more time to train people. Unfortunately no one will be available to train as they are all busy working 14+ hour days as well. I have actually see contracting companies re-write their contract to keep from being taken advantage of. This company takes from anyone they can. Be prepared to be lied to many times as I have heard all kinds of bull and VERY LITTLE of it has come to light in my 110 year tenure.

    Advice to Management

Quit running the company on greed. Your employees are worth more than your huge yearly bonus. Follow through with pay raises without expecting the moon and stars. Fight for better benefits because frankly the current ones are pretty poor.

Relaxed, fun environment. Decent pay and benefits.

    Cons

Arrogant, sexist, clueless IT management where decisions are all based on politics instead of what's best for the company.

    Advice to Management

Executive leadership needs to clean house in IT management. Hire people who will follow best practices instead of good ole boy politics.

    Good benefits package, nothing else.

    Cons

They are the parent company for Adesa Auctions, AutoVin, Automotive Finance Corp, Preferred Warranty, Dent Demon. Upper management are all unscrupulous and are very quick to blame others for their downfalls. If you are a butt kisser and willing to be part of the boys club, by all means, you need to apply.

    Advice to Management

You will have to answer to the maker when judgement day comes.

    Cons

Horrible Training program, just push you into job with no assistance. All training done via ancient computer training and conference calls. NOT HELPFUL! Expections High for poor work environment. A lot of turnover and Corporate has no loyalty to workers, no matter how long you have been with Company, but Expect complete loyalty to them. Too many Rules about your Personal Choices, cant do any thing you want without prior permission. like buy a car! or Date someone. Very Controlling

    Advice to Management

Remember we are people and NOT perfect. Training should be within each branch and by local Training person to person NOT muckty stuck up corporate who never has done the job day to day!! (WINTER) Can't expect no mistakes when the Training is very lacking.
