Former Employee – worked at KB Home
Pros – Good company that is ahead of its competition. Great internship opportunities with a welcoming environment. KB Home takes good care of its employees. Company is in good position to ride out this rough economic situation. Is not in any eminent danger of closing operations.
KB Home pays interns well and offers mileage reimbursement for company business.
Cons – Homebuilder industry is in a major slump. Office environment has a certain level of fear. People are afraid of losing their job. Industry will not be ready for growth for over a year. Company is downsizing and coming off a hangover from the early 2000's real estate 'glory days'
Advice to Senior Management – Stick in there

Current Employee – been working at KB Home
Pros – The best reason unfortunately is the benefits and that is about it
Cons – The downsides I would have to say are lack of advancement opportunities at least in my division and the way they go about internally promoting. You never know the job was even available it is never posted. Right now it is nothing they can do about it but to current market has caused a lot of strain as well.
Advice to Senior Management – VALUE YOUR EMPLOYEES BECAUSE THEIR VOICE MATTERS AS WELL. DON'T WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE ABOUT TO WALK OUT THE DOOR BEFORE YOU WANT TO PROPERLY COMPENSATE THEM.

Current Employee – been working at KB Home
Pros – Great people, great learning experiences and ability to move up the ladder. The people are wonderful to work with and work for.
Cons – the market is the biggest concern right now. There have been a lot of layoffs which is never a good thing.
Advice to Senior Management – my manager is great... I can't speak for other departments though. She is on top of everything. as well as great at sharing information of what is going on in the company.

Current Employee – been working at KB Home
Pros – The company does seem to strive to satisfy it's 'external' clientele. I never had an experience where a customer's legitimate complaint or concerned was not addressed and remedied. The incredible disconnect between this mode of operation and the obvious lack of concern for employees is baffling.
Cons – A horrible environment for sales people. Long hours and absolutely no concern for an employees desire to balance or even have a personal life. Senior management is openly hostile towards salespeople and would certainly replace them with robots if the opportunity existed. It is an exhausting place to work.
Advice to Senior Management – Take a long look at your sales corp...the incredible turnover rate should speak volumes but you seem to not to care.

Former Employee – worked at KB Home
Pros – KB's systems and training processes are some of the best in the industry. I think everyone in home building should spend some time there. They do a good job of training and you will get food experience, just don't expect to be rewarded for your hard work, particularly in the current economy.
Cons – Base pay is extremely low compared to other companies in similar industry, however they will tell you you will make in up in bonus. Don't count on it, especially now. Senior managers make a great deal of money, $500k and up primarily in bonus money. Also, never expect fairness or ethics in your treatment. I was in then I was out, so I saw both sides...
Advice to Senior Management – Revamp your senior management thought process to be less greedy and reward those who do the work, not the senior managers who take credit.

Former Employee – worked at KB Home
Pros – Great training program, 401k, uniforms.
Cons – The compensation not equal to responsibility. Sales reps are responsible for generating almost all of their own traffic, getting all needed documents for home loan counselor, calling buyers to check on loan status, scheduling all appointments from contract to close. The only holidays the sales offices are closed is Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day and New years day. Management only communicates to ask how many sales you have for the week and if you don't have any, they don't care enough to ask why. They somehow overlook the dishonest sales reps, because as long as they are making sales, KB doesn't care WHAT the sales rep lied to the buyer about, as it is clearly stated in the contract that they can not be held liable for anything that the sales rep said. The employees talk trash about each other, sales managers talk trash about sales reps in front of other sales reps(from different properties).
Advice to Senior Management – None, they know the company has a high turn over, and they know why.....they just don't care, as long as they are getting a paycheck.

Former Employee – worked at KB Home
Pros – Decent base salary, decent bonuses, potential to make good money, and not worked to death.
Cons – Not a lot of career advancement opportunities, uphill battle with poor reputation in the past, high pressure and quick build times.
Advice to Senior Management – Allow for longer build times, and provide up to date technology for employees.

Former Employee – worked at KB Home
Pros – A leader in the industry. Very well respected within the homebuilding industry. You learn a ton because there are proven processes, procedures and performance measurement in place. Great place to start if you want to develop in the Homebuilding industry. Fast paced. At edge with current industry trend all the time. Good leadership. Driven and knowledgable staff. After proper training, you will know what you are supposed to do and how your performance being measured.
Cons – Hard working. Cyclical industry. You may loss job with the next downturn. Your boss maybe a old fashioned manager who knows a lot but at the same time has bad temper. Pay is based on performance with a large portion coming from bonus.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep the KBnxt alive. Force the Divisions to follow the practices as close as possible. Stay on course.
