Great opportunity to hone marketing skills during a successful real estate cycle.

    Marketing Coordinator (Current Employee)
    Tampa, FL

ProsKB Home was my most exciting and hands-on marketing opportunity. There is plenty to keep you busy and lots of fun events to host and plan. You are given opportunity to manage a territory of new home model communities. You have the chance to create the events to market these communities to the general public and to real estate agents. You are involved with all aspects of the promotion and sales of new home. You are responsible for giving in-house real estate agents the tools necessary for making a sale. As marketing representative you maintain collateral, update websites and promote the communities through direct mail, billboard, tv, internet, magazine and newspaper advertising. There are also fun, young professionals within the organization.

ConsThere are not many promotions available at the local level unless a division sees growth. Unfortunately I was on board during the downturn of the real estate market in Florida. The sales success is only as good as the sales representatives hired and trained in the various divisions. Depending upon the real estate industry in the city/state you work you will see either really well-paid realtors working hard or really poorly paid realtors working hard. KB has a very strong brand and often times there is not a lot of room for doing creative campaigns outside of the typical KB program. You often have to fight to implement new ideas.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore information and honesty in the stability of the company.

If you did not work on your own in a neighborhood with cool workmates working for KB Raleigh sucked.

    Superintendent (Former Employee)
    Raleigh, NC

ProsMoney was good. As a field superintendent you have lots and lots of freedom.

ConsPressure. They have BS standards of not closing a home unless it is 100% complete. If you find a nick in a cabinet at the final walk through you are not supposed to close the home..... totally stupid.. You have to ask the homeowner not to say anything about the issue. If they don't agree then they can't close... Stupid. Housing markets are very bad right now. 90% of emplyees laid off. Raleigh is now under completely new management..

Advice to Senior ManagementMake monthly CSI realistic. You want "fake" numbers. You want us to beg for the 10 even when the homeowner is not completely satisfied. This is very misleading and our yearly scores reflect that. We don't want honest feedback from the homeowners. 100% complete is a great standard and the only standard there should be but we are not robots and do not live in a perfect world.. Frequently minor issues will be found at the final walk through. In fact they always will if the home buyer starts to look. Need a realistic policy other then trying to get the home owner to sign off with the threat of not closing.

Good company overall, but do your research before you take a job there.

    Superintendent (Former Employee)
    Raleigh, NC

ProsKB Home as a company is one of the best builders in the business as far as it's organization is concerned on a corporate level. Education is very important and is pushed by management.

ConsThe Raleigh division unfortunately was vary disorganized at the local level. We built a lot of houses and did some good work but management and leadership was very much lacking. The right face was usually put out in front publicly, but it wasn't backed up internally.

Advice to Senior ManagementNot much since most have been fired or layed off!!

If you are going to work for this company, beware of your supervisors.

    Warranty Representative (Current Employee)

ProsThe benefits were about the only good thing about this company. If they followed through with all the promises they make, there would be a lot to say here. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Consdishonest policies and management, unrealistic expectations, lack of support when needed....i could go on for days

Advice to Senior Managementmaybe McDonalds would be a better place for you

Greatly enjoyed my time there but not a good place for now.

    Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)
    Orlando, FL

ProsThere are few jobs where you can enjoy as much freedom and make the same money that do not involve any sales. I found this job right after college. It was easy to get and very easy to do. My main duties consisted of maintaining relationships with people who bought houses and repairing them if the had any issues. The great part was that I worked completely in the field, I was only in an office about once per week and hardly ever had to answer to my boss.

ConsRight now the housing industry is not a good place to be.

    LACK OF ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES!!!!!!

    Disgruntled Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe best reason unfortunately is the benefits and that is about it

ConsThe downsides I would have to say are lack of advancement opportunities at least in my division and the way they go about internally promoting. You never know the job was even available it is never posted. Right now it is nothing they can do about it but to current market has caused a lot of strain as well.

Advice to Senior ManagementVALUE YOUR EMPLOYEES BECAUSE THEIR VOICE MATTERS AS WELL. DON'T WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE ABOUT TO WALK OUT THE DOOR BEFORE YOU WANT TO PROPERLY COMPENSATE THEM.

KB Home great company but needs help in Atlanta Market

New Home Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsKB Home has a very good track record in business and manages the company well. They provide incentives to sell, vacations and CASH as a way to motivate. The on job training was absolutely fabulous when I began with the company. Plenty of role playing and continuous on line classes to stay on top of the game in the business. They continuously involved the agents with realtors and rewards to draw them into the communities.

ConsThe Atlanta market had many changes in the past couple years. They opened communities for sales agents and without telling them of what is to come, closes them down. The agent is left to inform the buyers of the changes. They have long hours with sales promotion weekends beginning from 10am-midnight, expect to stay. Movement of agents just when you start to sell, move you to another community. Which removes you from a large portion of the commission. Safety, was never top priority. Security systems that were not paid for, to save costs.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior management changed many times. Training went from a month long training from community to community. Now, training is passed between agents to train others. Management extreme cut backs of office help. President of Atlanta market favored people and did not treat people fairly. Respect of all the hard work was not provided, expectations were illegal at times.

Good company. Great place to start a career.

    IT (Former Employee)
    Charleston, SC

ProsGood company that is ahead of its competition. Great internship opportunities with a welcoming environment. KB Home takes good care of its employees. Company is in good position to ride out this rough economic situation. Is not in any eminent danger of closing operations.

KB Home pays interns well and offers mileage reimbursement for company business.

ConsHomebuilder industry is in a major slump. Office environment has a certain level of fear. People are afraid of losing their job. Industry will not be ready for growth for over a year. Company is downsizing and coming off a hangover from the early 2000's real estate 'glory days'

Advice to Senior ManagementStick in there

KB Home: Go or no go

    Office Manager (Current Employee)
    Pleasanton, CA

ProsGreat people, great learning experiences and ability to move up the ladder. The people are wonderful to work with and work for.

Consthe market is the biggest concern right now. There have been a lot of layoffs which is never a good thing.

Advice to Senior Managementmy manager is great... I can't speak for other departments though. She is on top of everything. as well as great at sharing information of what is going on in the company.

    SALESPEOPLE BEWARE

New Home Sales Associate (Current Employee)
    Irvine, CA

ProsThe company does seem to strive to satisfy it's 'external' clientele. I never had an experience where a customer's legitimate complaint or concerned was not addressed and remedied. The incredible disconnect between this mode of operation and the obvious lack of concern for employees is baffling.

ConsA horrible environment for sales people. Long hours and absolutely no concern for an employees desire to balance or even have a personal life. Senior management is openly hostile towards salespeople and would certainly replace them with robots if the opportunity existed. It is an exhausting place to work.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a long look at your sales corp...the incredible turnover rate should speak volumes but you seem to not to care.
