Pros-Culture is a lot more laidback than the traditional bulge-bracket shops
-Senior bankers treat the bullpen with a lot of respect
-Salary is in-line with what you'd expect for a boutique

Cons-Just because deals are smaller in size and volume, doesn't mean they expect you to be in the office any less. Face-time is still considered customary.
-Not sure how things have changed since they were acquired by Stifel.

    Company business has been shrinking.

    Not Client Facing (Former Employee)

ProsSenior management have good personalities and shoot from the hip. Best are the old school investment bankers.

ConsShots from the hip often miss. More disciplined business planning would benefit the business. Typically sexist Wall Street culture (but informal and friendly).

Advice to Senior ManagementStay the course with your focus on the financial sector and someday it will come back and the company will be successful again.

Large pool of long tenured, average employees makes it a professionally stifling place to work.

    Equities (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsA few of the positives include low levels of bureaucracy, generally friendly employees, and competitive salaries.

ConsKey downsides include poor senior leadership, lack of accountability, and little diversity among the employee base.

Advice to Senior ManagementPoor recent strategic decision making (in both the US and Asia), slow response to changing dynamic of marketplace, and terrible employee morale indicates serious senior management shake-up is needed as it suggests that management either does not know or care about the serious challenges threatening the firm from both inside and outside. It is tough to say which is worse, but the sad reality is that neither is getting addressed appropriately.

    Summer intern

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsProvided with a great summer internship experience that I would argue was one of the best exposures to the financial world

ConsI wasn't too happy with how little communication there was internally... seemed like you only really interacted with the people you directly worked for

Advice to Senior Managementthe only thing i would advise the management on is making sure that everyone knows who is new (even interns)

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe company are big supporters of 9-11 and serve free lunch everyday

ConsThere really isn't a good middle management structure at all. Seems most are where they are because of who they became close with, not skill.
