Current Employee – been working at KPMG full-time for more than a year
Pros – Good people
Not very cut throat
Offices in every large- and mid-sized US city, which provides good mobility for those who need it
Brand new offices
Cons – Their MC practice just doesn't attract A-level talent both at experienced hire level (all levels) or entry level... senior managers who have been jumping ships, managers with no consulting experience, partners who are not selling, etc. What that means is that if you are in MC for experience and learning, KPMG is not going to be able to provide you that. Do yourself a favor and look for MC placement with Booz and Co., ATK, Accenture, etc.
It is also pretty evident from the fact that they mainly end up doing low level (e.g., inventory assessment, spend analysis, etc.) assessment work and little strategy and/or real design and implementation work.
KPMG MC's financial management practice is somewhat better than their Business Effectiveness practice in terms of higher impact projects, quality of work, quality of talent, etc.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay big bucks to real MC partners to come help build the practice and help bring on real MC talent.

Former Employee – worked at KPMG
Pros – They pay very well and do not expect a lot of overtime. The offices are quiet and it's easy to work without much stress.
Cons – Their IT leaves something to be desired. The software used is somewhat dated. There are much better programs for access to travel and expenses.

Current Employee – been working at KPMG
Pros – The best reasons to work at KPMG is because of the people and the learning environment. The people are intelligent, friendly, professional, and always work as a support system to better one another.
Cons – One of the cons of working at KPMG are the hours, although anyone in this profession should be prepared to work many hours during busy season in order to better service the clients. And the main pro I mentioned above, the people, make the hours go by much faster.
Advice to Senior Management – I do not have any advice for leadership at this time, the leadership of KPMG has continually performed for the best of the company and its employees.

Former Employee – worked at KPMG
Pros – Big 4 name is valuable to the accounting community. It's a great place to find challenging experiences if you are able to navigate the political environment.
Cons – There is a risk that you will end up being put in difficult situation as a senior and manager because of past instances of poor decision making and employee development.
Advice to Senior Management – Play for the long term by focusing on employee development. Short term profitability shouldn't overshadow the goal of long term success.

Former Employee – worked at KPMG
Pros – Great experience. Good pay. Good benefits. Reputation of firm and clients.
Cons – Long hours. People were laid off after we were told there would not be any(more) layoffs.
Advice to Senior Management – Stand behind what you say and stand behind your employees who are grinding out all of these hours so you can fill your pockets.
