Pros
the people are great and the chillest out of the big 4. Training and internship emphasize sociability and team work
Cons
Not so much directed at the company profile, but the line of work in audit can be mundane at times, especially as a first year associate
Advice to Senior Management
Management does a pretty good job of relaying information throughout the office. Recruiting team was great to work with as an entry level
Pros
KPMG is a big highly regarded company with a huge list of clients, which gives an opportunity to get involved with interesting projects.
Cons
Did not gain much experience overall. I can not say I was completely ignored but I could have been assigned much more responsibility.
Advice to Senior Management
Assign more responsibility to interns. And I mean to all of them. Most interns were either sitting there doing nothing all the time, or given jobs like "photocopying" all the time. Management didn't seem to care about interns so it was up to permanent employees to assign jobs.
Pros
My boss is very great and fair. My contributions are considered and I am so well respected by senior management.
Cons
The salary is not at par with other financial service companies. But that is something that one should expect at big 4
Advice to Senior Management
I will say the leadership should keep doing what they are doing with respect to promoting diversity and fairness and respect
Pros
5 weeks "personal" time (sick and vacation combined). Question is whether or not you'll ever get the ability to take it. Management/Partners are generally professional and respectful.
Cons
Very poor work/life balance. Can be an uptight environment.
Pros
Partner's tend to be quite knowledgable; some interesting work; tend to be understanding about family emergencies; generally a pleasant place with few screamers
Cons
Very bureaucratic; certain people are not respectful of individual time (calls on holidays and work on holidays - the big holidays); compensation is not enough for hours (regularly work 60+ hours for not a lot)
Advice to Senior Management
Management at the office level I would say is actually quite good; the higher level management is a little out of touch with reality; change the e-mail infrastructure - it is killing productivity; improve internal document storage - Orion is horrible
Pros
very friendly working environment. Work as a team and it was fun to have different projects to work on. Great place to work
Cons
to much overtime, some time it makes people feel very tired and exhausted after working till the midnight. no overtime bonus
Advice to Senior Management
no exact advice to the leadership at KPMG. sometimes it can get very bureaucratic. people in the leadership team was not all friendly.
Pros
If you are looking for a good reputable firm to work for KPMG is a good start and offers many good trainings.
Cons
Partners didn't seem to care about their staff and senior managers didn't treat staff with respect. KPMG is pretty short staffed due to high attrition so some employees are over worked.
Advice to Senior Management
KPMG needs to understand that they need to respect their employees and show appreciation or people will continue to leave.
Pros
it prepares you for future careers, it has comprehensive training programs, it is a reputable company with brand name recognition
Cons
the work life balance is pretty much unbearable for most reasonable people, you cant take time off or use your vacation
Advice to Senior Management
Do not work your employees to their breaking point. You pretty much force your best employees to quit and find better jobs elsewhere.
Pros
Mostly smart and nice people. 5 weeks vacation (although very hard to use). Stick around and you will eventually get promoted.
Cons
Many mixed messages. "Charge what you work" but if you do that you tick off managers. "Take your PTO" but if you do that your utilization and therefore your performance metrics go down. "Talk to us about what interests you" but then you are sent wherever you are needed, no matter how tedious or irrelevant the project is.
Advice to Senior Management
Send clear messages. People come to KPMG with a set of talents. Let them utilize those talents to your advantage, do not force them to work on thankless projects for months on end.
Pros
experience with premier financial services clients & good benefits/vacation time. In earlier years, social events were frequent and well attended. (not so much recently).
Cons
Your satisfaction will likely be tied closely with the partner(s) you work for most directly. There are "subcultures" within the firm that can be very political and toxic.
Advice to Senior Management
As mentioned in the "cons," the leading engagement partners (in FS, at least) really set the tone for staff. When working on site, it is easy to become disconnected from the rest of the firm. Options for lateral movement is strictly limited in these situations. You're at the mercy of your partner.
