    I worked at KPMG International

    Pros

Great experience learning new types of business and consulting models. An interesting take on how companies operate and what is important to management.

    Cons

Some of the work became very mundane. Opportunities to move up the "ladder" appear present but very rarely come to fruition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't lead people on with the carrot of "becoming a partner" without also explaining the real level of effort or time requirements to achieve such.

    Pros

    Exposure to public accounting practice.

    Cons

Employee are laidoff if management do not meet projected new business and it is the associates that are generally let go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not hire people and let them go after only three or four months when they have barely have time to prove them. Peoples careers are being ruined because, they are out of school and now have to reenter the workforce where new employers are going look for work experience. Also, some people had multiple offers but chose KPMG and only to be laid off in three months.

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to gain project experience and get good business insights. Friendly, young colleagues. Every year new budget for (external) trainings. Some good company events. Lots of training papers/documents.

    Cons

Due to the project work, worktime often has peaks with >10h/days. Non-transparant salary bargaining rounds by management-board. Ratio of billable hours is the only key figure that matters, despite line manager and additional project feedbacks. Low salary

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More communication of ongoing business and pitches. Transparent pay raises rounds with more consideration of feedback interviews

    Pros

Structured training programs and access to online business school courses to supplement learning. Very supportive of your schooling to attain accounting designations.

    Cons

Very structured so promotions can be slow. Personal growth can also be slow because you are expected to start out very junior doing very junior tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for more variability in terms of growth of new employees. Very bright people often leave because their growth seems stunted, so what can you do to keep them at the firm?
