great experience before you reach your 30s..

Advisory Senior Associate (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at KPMG full-time for more than 3 years

Pros-diverse projects
-diverse teams
-international clientele
-interesting work...sometimes
-compensation is competitive
-growing advisory department

Cons-many advisory projects still are not really consulting engagements
-"risk advisory" is basically accounting, "management consulting" still assists "risk" a lot on engagements....

Advice to Senior Managementtry to differentiate management consulting lines with risk consulting lines. we realize the meat and bones of this company is still accounting, but if you want heftier fees you'll need to provide a reason to pay those hefty fees for "management consulting"

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

The single worst experience of my professional life

Recruiting Manager (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at KPMG full-time for more than 8 years

ProsThe pay, the pension The people I hired. Other than that there is really nothing positive about this firm

ConsThey downgraded the 401K from 75 cents on the dollar to 25 cents on the dollar, Recruiting leadership is a joke; an organization that is rife with malfeasance. A political snake pit

Advice to Senior ManagementDrop the holier than thou platitudes. Hold the Partners accountable for not selling any work; Stop off shoring work to India

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Pockets of interesting work,

Tax Senior (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at KPMG full-time for more than a year

ProsExcellent work life balance.
Some pockets of interesting work.
Salary is very decent for work hours.
Friendly atmosphere.

ConsAssociates are more like "bodies"; people come and go.
Work not always interesting.
Not the most flashy place for a tax attorney to work.
Very low compensation compared to law firm comp.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay market rates (or at least close to market rates) to associates that are attorneys.
Give more attention to the interview process.
Pay more attention to team building within groups; management should not hire massively because this disrupts group culture and dynamics.

90% of my work took place outside of the KPMG office at client sites within the boroughs of NYC.

Associate Advisory (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at KPMG full-time for more than a year

ProsLarge firm, good perks, benefits, reputation, client base, advancement opportunities, training, bonuses, business is booming

Cons90% travel out of KPMG NY office, but within NYC itself. Lowest salaries out of Big 4 firms, project deadlines take priority over and negatively affect work/life balance, talent retention

Advice to Senior ManagementStand up to clients to better manage demands. Allow for larger budgets to accommodate a normal working schedule for staff, which will increase talent retention and will decrease overall turnover costs related to recruitment and training. Happy employees work better and smarter.

Pros1. Most Important: Great place to learn about people and politics!
2. Treats employees with respect
