    Overall great experience.

    Director (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsVery entrepreneurial culture with great people that respect the work/life balance. At KPMG you control your own success or lack thereof.

ConsVery entrepreneurial means it can get stressful at times.

    Audit Internship

Audit Associate (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsI really enjoyed all of the people that I got to know. They put on a lot of fun events and provided a large network.

ConsThe work that interns are given can be pretty mindless. They treat you nice it just isn't work that is always all that interesting.

Okay but not a career for me in the long run

Tax Associate (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

    ProsPretty cool people
    Big firm perks

ConsThe oldest technology and office I have ever seen (but they are moving to Aon in June/July 2012)
    You never know your schedule.
I always seem to be working more than other associates.
Not a very flexible schedule since you have to work on manager schedules and some like to work 24 hours a day

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a life so you aren't working all the time, then your staff and seniors won't feel like they have to work all the time and maybe they would enjoy their job more

    Demanding environment with rewards

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsWorking with good people doing interesting work that is usually appropriate to your level. The High Performance Culture makes it such that you can't be a habitual underperformer and stick around. Tools aren't usually top of the line but are good. Still part of the big 4 but people and partners seem nice and genuine.

ConsVery demanding environment in what is a very lean organization. Hard to achieve any work life balance at any level of the organization. New office layouts are terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo many competing and contradictory priorities.

A good place to start, but value measured in hours, not innovation

Audit Associate (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsLots of opportunities to interact with big-name clients, people are relatively intelligent for the most part, nice to be a part of a huge young workforce

ConsAlthough most people are smart, the value-add of most associates (and even seniors) is the ability to sit down, shut up, and not ask to go home. Many times, especially during busy season, where poor planning by senior associates (i.e. 25-28 year olds) leads to "fire drills" at the end of audits. Little buy-in from managers, partners, etc. and low compensation for hours worked

Advice to Senior ManagementStay on par with other Big Four, lose the "old boy's network" attitude at the top (it's an accounting firm after all)

    Where Seniors are disrespected

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsBenefits. Still a Big Four unfortunately for many of us

ConsDont bring ethic issues up or they'll fire you, they have no values. Managers ridicule employees.
Management highly immatured and unpolished. It took approx 8 years for mgmt to get there but they expect that you get it in 3 months, even if you strech yourself, they will lie on your performance eval and your career will be out the door. Make sure you act dumb, that way they will keep you for years. Mgmt is insecured and in most cases uneducated. Say NO to them.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhat a destructive management, please dont destroy people's career, you have no right to. Shame on your performance evaluation system. Thanks to that as many intelligent and smart people are out the door in this tough economy and not finding a job. Arent your immature middle managers enough to make life hell for employees?

A lot of hours and great experience; you get a lot of exposure to different clients and a lot of responsibility.

Tax Associate (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsIt is a great experience, and you learn a lot as you are given so much responsibility right of the back. They take care of you well, but expect you to work a lot of overtime.

ConsOvertime is always expected, and there seems to be an unbalance of workload accross associates at the same level.

Advice to Senior ManagementRe assess workload to employees on the same level. Some seem to be doing a lot more work than others.

Working in advisory is difficult in an audit world

Senior Associate Advisory (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsLots of learning, steady career advancement, looks great on resume

ConsComplete disregard for work life balance. Proving yourself to be an outperformer will result in getting worked to the bone with little financial gain to be had. Independence issues and company wide policies directed toward the much larger audit practice strangles the advisory practice.
