    Pros

Really smart and driven people, collaborative atmosphere, plenty of chances to develop multiple skill sets, plenty of travel, direct access to senior management (and they tend to take your inquiries seriously)

    Cons

plenty of travel can get old, not many chances for advancement, in some groups the managers play favorites, there can be long periods of no work in your own field and you need to be willing to do something completely different for a while, pay is less than what you might get if you leave the firm

    Advice to Management

try to keep key talent from slipping away by possibly being more transparent about the advancement process.

  2. Kpmg provides valuable experience and offers a strong clientele. Very demanding Jan-Mar.

    Pros

KPMG is the best of the big 4 by far. Great people and fantastic experience overall. Plus they are building a new office.

    Cons

The turnover is the worst part but that goes with any public accounting firm. Busy season helps put things in perspective but overall it is not that bad.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay to help stop turnover and increase team efficiency.

    Pros

This is a good place to start your career. You can work hard and move up to Sr. Associate, after that it is all politics and how well the business is doing.

    Cons

Company has a very short term planning cycle. Responsibilities can be very ambiguous. They do a poor job of identifying high performers.

    Pros

Great company to kick-off a career or a great way to get diversity.

    Cons

Nobody looks out for you and you have to take 100 percent ownership of your career progression

    Advice to Management

    Be a leader.

    Pros

They make a focused effort and put attention towards being considered a great place to work.

    Cons

There's a lot of tenure at the partnership and it can be tough for some to rise above and get noticed.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate new ideas to mix up the status quo.

    Pros

I work for and with highly intelligent teammates. I feel valued and respected. I always have high quality resources in which to be successful. Company invests well in training. A lot of learning is through experience in public accounting so I am happy that I am learning from some of the smartest people I have had the opportunity to work for. Professional environment without being stuffy. Inclusive environment.

    Cons

As with any public accounting...busy season hours are awful.

    Advice to Management

Continue to value all levels of your staff. The little rewards of movie tickets, gift cards, sporting events, etc do make a difference. Please keep that up.
