    Pros

The people are by and large very bright and management gives great opportunities to up and coming junior staff. There are good training programs in place. A great place to challenge yourself and learn.

    Cons

Expectations are high, and you will put in the hours. Management Consultants generally can expect to travel to work from other cities (Mon-Thurs) each week - not too common to be staffed on local projects. Getting promoted requires that you nurture your own network and to some politicking.

    Pros

If you work with KPMG, it should help your career progression and ultimately your future.

    Cons

Working there can be injurious to your health! The work hours and stress can be really bad for your health. On the bright side, you'll get exposure to a lot of senior level management from different companies.

    Pros

Plenty of readily available software, if you know how to use them. Sometimes, there are food events. Partners can participate, but it's usually just the same one.

    Cons

Core values from upper management to support staff do not apply. Brown nosing, cronyism, posturing and lies are quietly common from mid-management. Some other staff are worse. To stay employed, don't even approach HR, unless it's to say how perfect things are. Their only job is to cater to Partners. Just look down, take any attitude and do not disagree with anything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A good person will have more core values in their little pinky than most anyone in Tax will have in their whole body. HR is a joke. Maybe you just didn't notice there is a recession, but you may as well have taken away a person's home as well as their job.

    Pros

Solid promotional path (Hierarchy: Junior Associate - Associate - Senior Associate - Manager- Managing Director - Partner). Good entry level compensation.

    Cons

Rarely see managers, not much opportunity for mentorship. Little training... you learn as you go. Steep learning curve.

I worked at KPMG US full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work with young people.
    Exposure to industry management.
    Professional training.
Ability to take extended periods of time off outside of busy season.

    Cons

    No work life balance.
Little opportunity to steer your career in your desired direction.
Some (not all) of the people beg the question: "How did you get hired?"
Compensation is less than impressive (in spite of what the magazines say). You are underpaid, so does it really matter if the firm pays for a treadmill once a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give individuals more control of their career so that can pursue their interests and fulfill their potential. Why not give the best associates the ability to choose their clients?
Consider paying more to attract better candidates than the other Big 4. It is pathetic that KPMG is the least reputable firm in the US, when it thrives in other countries.

    Pros

Challenging work. Very flexible. Great people.

    Cons

Sometimes the work is overwhelming. Sometimes the client work can be so boring it makes you feel like you're actually getting dumber. The firm also seems to be trying to outsource to India quite a bit, so who knows what the future here will be like.
