I have been working at KPMG US

    Pros

Good atmosphere, down to earth compared to other big 4 firms. Doing tax you get to do the CA and CTA at once.

    Cons

Feel I am worth more than I'm paid as a trainee.

Former Employee - Audit Assistant in Manchester, England (UK)
Former Employee - Audit Assistant in Manchester, England (UK)

    I worked at KPMG US

    Pros

The chance to do accounting qualification whilst being paid and working. Gain exposure to a range of clients in different industries and the chance to meet different people working at different professional levels at those client companies. Also have a good network of colleagues at same level as you in the firm but also mix with all levels and there is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere so that there is no real division between partners and other employees.

    Cons

The work can become mundane as the challenge does peak. Worst though is that you do the same audits every year and the opportunities to see other companies ends. And there is no choice in what companies you therefore come to "specialize" in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To take more of an active interest in the backgrounds of the new employees and allow them exposure to clients they want to work on (ie give them a choice). This will enhance their performance too.

    - NO DIVERSITY at all. I work in the pensions team and it is non-existent
    - pay not the best
    - long hours and no appreciation from management

    Not good for an Internship

Former Employee - Summer Intern in Manchester, England (UK)
Former Employee - Summer Intern in Manchester, England (UK)

    I worked at KPMG US

    Pros

Superficially looks good on my CV
    Lunch allowance
Given holidays which can be paid back if not used
Lots of other interns in this office

    Cons

The department seemed surprised to have two interns and did not have enough work for either of us. On a few occassions I arrived at 9am and was not given work (despite asking repeatedly) until 4pm. Was actually advised to read the business section on BBC news on numerous occassions.
Major problem seemed to be that employees were very promotion focused and hence did not want to share work such that they could gain full credit for the task.

Looks like an okay place to do a grad scheme, but definately avoid the internship programme

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Define the internship programme and the role of the interns in the company
Listen when complaints are made as to lack of work
