I worked at KPMG US full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

In Audit or tax, opportunities for learning and development are seemingly endless and performance management is good

    Cons

The advisory practice is struggling to find its footing in the market - management consulting in particular. There are too few partners to grow the business and the practice does not have a good track record of tactical execution of strategy. Partner/Principal behavior is at times unethical. Timely feedback on performance is practically nonexistent. Be prepared for surprises at year end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Examine a person's holistic contributions to the firm before terminating them because they had one difficult year.

    Pros

The group is comprised of a group of fundamentally decent and well meaning people. I firmly believe that they all mean well.

    Cons

The expectations are unreasonable. There are some truly bad people that you may have to work with from time to time.

    Pros

Rewarding experience. In my experience my hardwork was recognized and rewarded.

    Cons

Bad behaviors are tolerated and not addressed appropriately by management. I strongly recommend soft-skills training is a necessity for many.

Cliques are very common and egos get a better part of people. Treatment of client relationships are a priority but staff comes a distant second.

You will work hard and long hours but if you have the right manager or partner supporting you there is some recognition for hard work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have direct conversations with staff and management teams on softskills. Break the cliques.
