    I worked at KPMG US

    Pros

Exposure to F500 clients. A stamp on the resume to open doors for more enjoyable jobs. Fast promotions because of high turnover.

    Cons

The business model expects high turnover, so you are a contracted slave for 2-3 years. On the flip side, few people enjoy the job, so most are just using the firm as a stamp on the resume to move on to better firms with better pay and work/life balance.

    Pros

Coworkers are very young for the most part, as it is in the entire industry, and I consider many of them my good friends. You'll be able to interact directly with the client and often with upper management. National trainings are a lot of fun and the size of the firm allows you to do anything if you perform well and go ask for it.

    Cons

Long hours and tight budgets and deadlines can be tough.

    Pros

Challenging, fast-paced, great people, looks great on resume, excellent salary & recognition programs

    Cons

Red tape, quantity preferred to quality (depending on the manager), demanding, on-call for clients

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider pushing back on clients when appropriate (depending on the manager)

Former Employee - Advisory Manager in San Francisco, CA

I worked at KPMG US full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

KPMG is a great firm where personal growth is important. Relatively little office politics, excellent mentoring culture. Employees at all levels are given a wide berth to pursue their interests in working in other geographies. Great training opportunities. For consultants who do not wish to travel, it is for the most part accommodated.

    Cons

The Advisory practice tends to work regionally. There should be greater opportunities to work with other industries and other regions if a consultant chooses to travel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to provide employees with opportunities within the firm.

    2. Great place to learn from the best.
    3. Exposure to hundreds of clients and contacts.
    4. Training is outstanding and unmatched by the other Big 4.

    Pros

People. You spend more time with your audit team than your own family and friends outside of the organization. KPMG truly believe the people make the company successful and I completely agree. I also enjoyed the ability to work on audits in various industries for the first years as an associate.

    Cons

Learning to multi task and interview clients that are not only your elders but high ranking levels of the firm. You work a ton of hours so the work, life balance concept suffers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I wish my mentors would have been more available to help me work on the areas that I struggled.

I have been working at KPMG US full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Working in an industry you are interested in allows you to gain in depth knowledge and insights to the types of businesses you want to eventually work for. You gain valuable work skills which can translate across different career paths. Lots of social events.

    Cons

Long hours for most of the year with below market pay (made up for in "experience"). High turnover leads to some novice teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out a way to make your staff work less.
