I have been working at Kahala Hotel & Resort

    Pros

The people that work here are amazing. There are so many personalities going around that it makes the work place exciting. Management is incredibly supportive and always looking out for the best interest of the employees. Benefits and pay are excellent.

    Cons

If it's low occupancy and you're at the bottom it's going to be rough.

I worked at Kahala Hotel & Resort full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The best part is the benefits, specifically, the medical and dental.

    Cons

Too much micro-management in house. Salary is OK.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More incentives for the employees to improve service.

I have been working at Kahala Hotel & Resort

    Pros

ummm, maybe the location. free parking, lunch, & dry cleaning for managers

    Cons

long hours, way under appreciated by owners, cut throat corporate team thats not not afraid to cuss at you and put you in your place. morale blows and decision making is stifled by fear of retribution

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you should treat your employees like people, not minions to do what you say.

I have been working at Kahala Hotel & Resort

    Pros

the medical benifits are pretty good, very very little taken out of the paycheck. meals are provided daily too but I hear this is standard for hospitality. free parking for managers (but union folks have to fork out monthly so most park down at the beach park and take up all the spots)

    Cons

If anyone is reading this becuase they are considering working there, think long and hard. You will be overworked and way underpaid. Just because it is upscale, the pay is lowscale, probably equal to mid tier hotels in waikiki. The owners dont care about the people that work there, only the money they make so they skimp where they can, pay, facilities, upkeep, morale. This place has a reputation of really bad turnover so people there dont get too close to each other becuase they know they aint going last long. Ruins any sense of ohana. Has no care to cultural issue, no sense of Hawaiiana, and all the managers are overworked and tired and dont care to help others too much.

Oppressive management makes for a bad work environment. Employees are tired of the status quo and guests sense it.

    Pros

It is a job. That should count for something in this very bad economy. You get a free meal, free medical insurance for the employees and their dependants. You get to meet a lot of celebrities.

    Cons

According to some of the people that worked there during previous management it used to be a great place to work. The working environment now is reminiscent of some of the horror stories I have heard about how Wal-Mart treats their employees. The employees are the ones that make the Resort the best place to stay in Hawaii.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

But what the management is essentially doing is taking away the warm personality of the employees and make them abide by certain standards that they think is what the guest are looking. I think company standards should be treated as par for the course. The personal touch is what gets the guest to come back. I have heard many return guests complaining and some employees are just bitter. Change the way you treat your employees. Make them want to come to work. With the way things are going now most of the employees come to work just because it is a stable job. The Resort is not a factory....we are part of the hospitality industry and we should act as such.
