I have been working at Kaiser Permanente as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

The people there are friendly and, for the most part, supportive. I've had a great experience working there, and I've been able to make a big difference in the "KP way," even as a contractor.

    Cons

Rapid growth and recent re-orgs have cause disruptions in the resources. But I like and admire our new VP, and I like where his vision is leading. Lack of documented processes, process reviews, and centralized information makes job functions difficult at times.

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good Pay, vacation, benefits, exposure to different parts of healthcare

    Cons

Organization would fit right into the 80s. Org charts manually updated once a month, fear and threats typical management style. No distribution of knowledge, overwhelming number of contractors in IT.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make managers go to "boss school" and learn the basics. Praise publically, chastise privately, promote your team not yourself, learn to delegate, etc. Huge opportunity wasted as people learn quickly not to push the envelope - in any direction.
