I have been working at Kaleidoscope full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Casual, friendly environment; interesting projects and wide variety of clients; large enough for career growth but small enough to avoid bureaucracy. The many specialized departments (design, implementation, mock-up, color proofing) and variety of projects make this a great work environment for multi-taskers and anyone who wants an opportunity to expand their knowledge of design and/or production. Management are committed to encouraging career growth. A great place for both long-term employees who want to stay and advance, and younger employees looking to learn new skills in a competitive market. If you are motivated, flexible, a team player and hate being bored, you'll love Kaleidoscope!

    Cons

Can be very fast-paced, which some people don't enjoy; not a good environment for people who prefer a more corporate, highly-structured single-task workplace.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue developing career growth opportunities and investing in the company, it's been working great so far!

    Pros

    - Great group of talented and creative people that genuinely care about their work and for each other.
    - They are currently remodeling the studio so once the space is finished, Kaleidoscope will have an even more collaborative culture.
    - Great PTO plan & benefits

    Cons

Can get busy very quickly, but nothing that is out of the ordinary for a design studio.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the culture strong during phases of growth.

I worked at Kaleidoscope full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good talented and creative group of people who work very hard and know what they are doing
    standard benefits, flexible
    family type environment
owners come off as being approachable
    free parking

    Cons

    disjointed environment resulting in cliques
stagnant - no growth, no opportunities for advancement
management resistant to their own change with unrealistic expectations on timeline for implementation
    salaries are not market competitive
    no "real" measured performance review
revolving door mentality--people appear to be disposable.
different employees are held to different standards

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

adopt a plan of action and allow it to manifest into the vision, before redirecting and causing confusion. Create real teams that support each other and the big picture and stop the blatant favoritism. Cultivate growth and support a "real team" environment. reward people for their contribution.

I have been working at Kaleidoscope full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The culture here is very inclusive. Everyone is helpful and they seem to really want to get to know you.
Amazing space and lots of it! Currently the space is being re-designed to make it even better.
It's exciting to work with such creative people and see the entire design process.
People are very engaged and loyal to the company.

    Cons

Kaleidoscope needs a bit more structure to get to the next level in terms of growth. This seems to be something they are currently working on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Centralization is key but make sure not to take away from the culture.

I worked at Kaleidoscope full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-typical lofted design workspace (very very open and nice)
-bosses come off as very friendly and personal
-most of the people that work there are fantastic, like family

    Cons

-upper management very unstable and only concerned with themselves, not the team
-hours can be extremely strenuous, as it can be under-staffed in certain departments
-departments are very separated, don't work well together at all

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

apply a more appropriate business strategy to the workplace and for its employees - acting nice and friendly doesn't fix anything in the end, it just creates a false hope for what is to come

Decent place to work... just stay out of the politics and don't expect to retire form this company.

    I worked at Kaleidoscope

    Pros

    Decent Compensation
    Flexible
    Cheap Parking
    Competitive 401K
Typical Agency Atmosphere... Relaxed to a Point, Open Loft Layout, Casual Dress Code
    Owner's can be Friendly

    Cons

-Yearly layoffs, at least in the past. Leads to very low morale w/ tenured employees
-Somewhat unstable working environment... company is routinely changing without really changing.
-While the owner's have shown that they can be friendly, they have just as equally shown that they are capable of harassment and intimidation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall, I am happy about the time I spent at this company, but at the time that I left... I was practically dying to get out. My only suggestion would be for the Senior Management to limit their communications to middle management only... and to let them deal with maintaining relationships with the employees.
