I have been working at Kaman full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Usually they don't screw you every single day...

    Cons

Bait and switch philosophy. Crummy benefits. Do more with less company. No long term vision. Management is non existent.

    Advice to Management

Speak in real English. Enough with the false promises and platitudes. Pay your people. Respect your people. Do SOMETHING.

    Pros

They pay you once a week.

    Cons

Upper management is either totally incompetent or they're just waiting for their next bonus. They don't know the business and have hired middle management that doesn't know it either. Anyone who knows anything is either laid-off or shuffled off to no interfere. No new products in development and the parent company is starving them for development funds. Lots of stress, total emphasis on money and schedule, no clue as to how to make things work or develop new products.

    Advice to Management

    Just go away.

I worked at Kaman full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Runs like a small startup at the branch level from operational standpoint but offers greater security given the resources leveraged from Kaman. Steady resources and proven business model

    Cons

Culture around computer and technical tools usage and IT issues seem to be stuck in the 80's. A culture of fear is applied from Corporate in this regard.

    Advice to Management

Technology enables good business, it is not the enemy. Encourage your team to participate in social media and engage with their closest customers.

    Pros

It's a paying job. It is a good place to start to pick up skills.

    Cons

Cannot get parts procured sufficiently to complete the work orders that keep rising in amount.

    Advice to Management

Worry about correcting problems on hand. Then worry about getting new contracts.
