I worked at Kansas City Southern Railway

    Pros

Decent pay, decent workload if you work for the right manager.

    Cons

Not progessive or open to new ideas
Promotions based on politics and not performance
    Frequent changes in management
    Performance evaluations are a joke

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your company needs to become much more progressive and open to new ideas in addition to showing respect for a job well done and not how many hours you spend in the office.

I worked at Kansas City Southern Railway full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Salary. Great Benefits. Union. Offers great money for only a High School diploma or GED.

    Cons

Demanding lifestyle. Little time for family or hobbies. Aggressive management. Dishonest practices. Failure to live up to collective bargaining agreements. Treat employees as disposable. Selectively enforce rules and policies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Comply with collective bargaining and live up to agreements. Focus less on the absolute bottom line so that you can foster a work environment that can breed enthusiasm and cooperation instead of contempt and distrust.

    Pros

Compensation is favorable and advancement is available to anyone willing to put in the time and effort.

    Cons

The small company struggles with process management from operations to corporate head quarters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push professionalisim from Transportation General Managers to Assistant Trainmasters. It exists in our corporate office but stops at the door.
