    Pros

Being a graduate student at KSU is a rewarding experience. The professors generally know every student by name and the class is more of a discussion and learning experience rather than just a lecture as in undergraduate studies. You are expected to do your work and treat graduate school as a job which I think is a benefit to research experience.

    Cons

Too few graduate students around. Makes it hard to be collaborative in some fields or areas.

    Pros

Bright people in science and engineering.

    Cons

The computer science department is run pretty much by one group. Bright folks, but their stuff is most important, and anything else takes a backseat. That includes master and doctoral students, post-docs, and new professors: if you don't play ball, you don't get far; if you play ball, your career development suffers.

    Advice to Management

Ask others what their goals are.

    Pros

My supervisors are friendly and willing to answer any questions I have. They care about the well being of students and will do anything to help.

    Cons

There is not much diversity at K-State. It is a conservative, predominantly Christian campus and many people hold strong beliefs regarding race and religion.

    Advice to Management

Be open minded and respectful to all students, faculty, and staff. Don't be afraid to collaborate with other departments on campus and find ways you can help them.

    Pros

K-State embraced me as an employee and I felt like I made hundreds of friends in months. I can't get that everywhere so that is a huge positive! Manhattan is also a great town to live in and has many family-friendly activities and events.

    Cons

At times, services seem to be decentralized but I do know that the University is working on improvements in this area.

    Advice to Management

Could use comprehensive onboarding program for new hires.

    Advice to Management

The professor I worked with was great. And department head too. There just has to be open and honest communication

    Pros

Hours are flexible, they work around student schedules. The university is closed on major holidays, so you don't need to worry about taking vacation on those days.

    Cons

The wages are fairly low, although they are slightly above minimum wage. If you're a student you get a 25 cent raise after a semester if you worked 100 hours or more.
