I have been working at Kaplan Publishing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great team.
    - Great managers
    - Love the work and the freedom that's given to employees in fulfilling their jobs.

    Cons

    - Low pay (relative to industry average)
    - Upper (Kaplan Test Prep) management cannot make up their minds.
    - You constantly feel like you're being treated like a child by KTP leadership.
    - It's a "tech company" who's highest level "tech" person cannot even program (KTP)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Recruit tech people for the top.
    - Pay closer to industry average so that people aren't constantly leaving for better paying jobs.
    - Actually allow employees to finish their projects.

    I worked at Kaplan Publishing

    Pros

The pay was decent for the location.

    Cons

Management was constantly changing, and chaotic. We had a new "goal" about every other month. Management was chosen by the buddy system and by personality. An example: The man chosen to manage the purchasing department came from the automobile industry, and had absolutely no publishing background. Worse, he had little interest in learning about publishing or book printing, which his department dealt with.
At one point, the company announced a large number of layoffs, then held a party/meeting two months later, and was surprised that not all employees were so enthusiastic.
    Competency and dedication were meaningless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on your day to day business, the details, and how to do what you do better.

    Pros

People who work for Kaplan Publishing tend to be highly intelligent, motivated, interesting people. I met a great group of people there. Also, there is a lot of opportunity to learn new skills and to grow professionally.

    Cons

They do not respect their employees' need to have work/life balance. Often, they expect their employees to work unpaid overtime and are not always willing to give you time off when you want it/need it.

Also, the salaries at Kaplan are low compared to similar positions at other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Happy employees are more productive than unhappy employees.

    Pros

They have good connections with big companies like SAP, Shell, HP so at the end these names looks good on CV.

Very disorganized, not much salary. Benefits and perks are not good enough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to fix their communication issues with their employees.
