I have been working at Kaplan full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people are smart, work hard, and are fun to be around. It's a very social environment (monthly social gatherings, ping pong breaks, lunch at the cafeteria). Innovative thinking is alive and well. New technology is evaluated and put to use. There are REAL IT Architects that work there.

    Cons

There's been a string of distracting organizational changes (layoffs, restructuring, leadership) over the past three years. Well-intentioned efforts to improve IT effectiveness don't appear to have been prioritized outside of IT. There's the typical, dreaded corporate "performance review" process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make organizational change a company-wide initiative, not just an IT initiative. IT cannot become the phenomenal resource you envision if every other department maintains their status quo. Transform the way the company operates, not just one department.

    Pros

    Benefits
    PTO
    People that you work with

    Cons

    Sales atmosphere
    Cold calling
Pressure to get enrollments and keep them

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employees. We are the ones that talk to students on a day to day basis and we need to have a better screening process. There are no blocks right now for students to enroll which decreases the value of a degree.

I have been working at Kaplan part-time for more than a year

    Pros

flexible schedule to work only where you want and work as little as you like
decent pay for a side job (some test companies won't pay for prep) in addition to a 9-5
easy to leave and get rehired

    Cons

getting hired and starting work took 6 months because of restructuring, i got overlooked
not enough hours for those who want it
management is incompetent, always seeking a scapegoat
only focused on money, more than employee and customer experience
no room for corporate advancement, though I was an internal candidate, they never got back to me

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

learn to be more organized so you can be efficiently in deliver a good product to students and maintain dedicated teachers
focusing on better communication would be a start. remote model will not be a feasible to uphold

I worked at Kaplan part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Kaplan Test Prep was a great part time job as a student. The manager was great, the pay was adequate, and the hours were very flexible.

    Cons

Generated leads from college students is not an easy task. Must be willing to accept rejection and continue.

I worked at Kaplan full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The team at Kaplan is great, and the training is comprehensive so it's an excellent stepping stone for a first career.

    Cons

After that however, there is little room for upward mobility and the starting pay, even with yearly raises will never be enough to sustain living in New York. During peak season you'll often work overtime, but unless your time is cleared in advance, you won't receive overtime pay.
