I worked at Kaspersky Lab full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

An exciting place to work if you like computers, their networks and the challenges they face around security. The products are very good and the company invests seriously in them. The R&D teams are true experts in the field. It is a relaxed work atmosphere with a diverse and mostly young workforce. Benefits are excellent and compensation is good.

    Cons

Very little attention is paid to career development and succession planning. At times it feels like only if you are a Russian you have a chance for a promotion to a global position. The HQ control on the local offices can be asphyxiating for innovation and productivity. Questioning authority is not welcome.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a serious, systemic effort to develop a culture that values all talent, not just security expertise and creates accountability around core values. Put attention to employee career development.

    Pros

2+ years ago this place was fun! A lot has changed.

    Cons

In 2 years, we had FOUR director of sales cycle in. It's time to take a step back and see what you're doing wrong as a company.
This place has turned in to a true boys club - taking rewards away from the person who won it and giving it to your favorite guy is not acceptable. "Boys only" lunches started by a manager on the sales team.
Watch out if you ask for vacation time - same manager will give you a guilt trip (even months after you get back)
Getting penalized for hitting your number with a bad territory is likely. They don't want to see anyone hit their number.
Taking away accelerators and thinking that motivates us? Telling us calculators will be issued that day, yet 7 weeks later no one has a clue on when they will be finished.
A lot of talking out of both ends.
    No career path.
    Do not work here!

I have been working at Kaspersky Lab full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    -good product
    -quarterly commission accelerators
    -excellent benefits and 401k

    Cons

-inconsistent sales approach that has had an identity crisis for the past few years
-Russia HQ is hurting NA business
-product generally only aligns with small business/mid-range SMB accounts, no legitimacy with larger/enterprise level accounts
    -no promotion/growth path
-management has high expectations for growth but provides little to no coaching or support to help reps be successful

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-reassess the sales and marketing strategy (KSV should be the major focus for the company in 2015)
    -too much reliance marketing/channel

    Pros

The work and industry are both incredibly interesting and constantly evolving. The organization places a significant amount of investment in R&D and is constantly publishing research on the largest cybercrime operations in the world. There are some brilliant minds working for the company with lots of exciting things to work on. The work-life balance is great and the compensation and benefits are competitive. The company offers flexible work arrangements and a global organization means you'll be working with team members around the globe.

    Cons

Be prepared for organizational politics - with a Russian twist. The organizational structure is poorly defined below the top levels of management and communication is sparse. The engineering department is slow to make decisions and resistant to feedback on issues and product direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Define and communicate your strategy more effectively. It's great to define the goal, but it most certain to fail if the strategy is not defined and communicated to the people in charge with meeting that goal.

I have been working at Kaspersky Lab full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The Kaspersky Technologies, Solutions, Services and Products are leading edge. There are some really talented people with great skill sets and a creative focus. WE have an excellent sales management team in the US. Everyone that has been at Kaspersky for more than a couple of years has said it was a great company to work for in the past.

    Cons

So many reorgs have lead to workforce productivity challenges, spreading job fear, people afraid to tell the truth about product problems, role conflicts, and outright dysfunctional workforce interactions and business processes... there is micro-management coming with hidden agendas inherently moving forward from certain executive management individuals based in Moscow. The US team is mostly excellent and quite a few of the Russian based team are excellent too...

However ---- There is an air of us vs them instead of true business collaboration as more and more US based workers and managers are displaced by Russian citizens moved to the US to replace them or positions in the US are moved to Moscow... many workforce actions are now micro-managed remotely. This should not be a problem if the newer or remote managers wanted to instill collaboration, but instead --- to often now --- it is about having yes men around them with tactics of intimidation, outright misrepresentation of workforce actions and misguided dysfunctional blaming of others. ... power moves for individuals instead of teams being focused on collaboration and team efforts to grow the business. Politics of the individual and how he looks is more important vs how the company really performs.

There are shadow organizations that mimc each other in various US and European regions so that some work is duplicated or is undermined in actions performed between competitive group ... There is evidence of misguided directives to US executives affecting our sales efforts and middle manager performance through bullying and toxic boss tactics. It is not a majority that is the problem, but it is a good enough of mismanagement at high places going on globally that is upsetting the Apple cart and not optimizing business actions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Would be the right thing to listen to middle management objectively about the problems of certain executive bullies that are adding to organizational dysfunction. Please understand that a climate of job security fear is counterproductive to doing our jobs. Let skilled people do their job instead of blocking them.

    Pros

The work atmosphere is great. Everyone is friendly and down to Earth. The executives are very easy to approach. No idea is a bad idea.

    Cons

Ruled Internationally and it causes a huge disconnect in reasonable expectations. What works in Europe does not mean it works here. Ironically, there are ZERO Business System Tools. Investing in a common infrastructure to become more efficient is non existent...in North America.

A lot of Upper Management Turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less turnover of management. Laying off management sends the notion that one should not strive to succeed. The more exposure you get, the more likely you will be let go. This is a very common theme.

Also, create room for growth. There is NO room to grow. Invest in employees more. Pay increases are COLA - nothing more. One should not have to leave the company in order to receive the income of their worth. most importantly invest in infrastructure employees can use in order to drive business.

I have been working at Kaspersky Lab full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people with lots of talent in North America. If you are looking for a job with little opportunity for growth this is the place where you can collect a pay check and work 9 to 5. Good work life balance and flexible work from policy.

    Cons

Global company that is being run out of Moscow by inexperienced executives. If this were a public company not one of the Chief's would have a job.

    Pros

Great Benefits!, it has all the goodies a company should have to keep their employees happy. It is a company that believes in working in unison, all together as one to achieve one Goal. You feel the sense of family as soon as you walk in to the office. The people I work with are very helpful and always willing to assist you. They have the greatest attitude and always with a big smile no matter what the day brings! Love this place.
