I have been working at Katz Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good work environment, terrific co-workers with a wide variety of skill sets and backgrounds.

    Cons

Executive team constantly turning over, lots of "flavour of the month" initiatives. Inconsistent focus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring retreads from US companies who come to Canada and think they understand Canada.

I worked at Katz Group full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Excellent benefit packages (health and dental)
Efforts recognized (chance for career advancements)
Great staff (friendly atmosphere, office a "team")
    An easily attainable bonus structure
Location. All departments on two floors

    Cons

Loads of great people left due to mismanagement
VP's and up made final call on promos - never in control of budget
Always changing (which is good) but always moving sideways
Org Chart needs to be updated
Operations/Stores not aligned enough to head office

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have your leaders stay longer to have a chance to make an impact. By the time they are adjusted and start to put their plan together, they are replaced with new blood, with a new vision, which never gets fully implemented.

I have been working at Katz Group

    Pros

There is a lot of opportunity to create a better, stronger, dominant organization. The blueprint is there.

    Cons

The organization is getting in it's own way. It is more cut throat than cooperative.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As long as management continues to passively bear witness to a negative culture, the organization will become more fragmented before it becomes cohesive.

I have been working at Katz Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The physical environment is good. Nice cafeteria, furniture, etc.

    Cons

Working at head office is horrible. The politics that go on between business units is mind boggling. It's no wonder the turnover is high. Besides what do you expect, the owner has not once stepped in to the H/O and doesn't even bother to shop at his own store. How's that for pride!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean up shop for once and for all. The few that are in control can't be trusted.

Good Stepping stone, but the truth is management is underpaid and overworked

I have been working at Katz Group

    Pros

Katz Group offered an excellent stepping stone in career advancement; nothing's better on a resume than management experience at a pharmacy!

The staff are compromising and willing to make things work, as long as you have an excellent rapport with them.

    Cons

I was on a salary contract, and my average week included several hours of unpaid overtime that included at least one, twelve-thirteen hour day a week. This company really milks the most our of their management.

There's a lack of respect from higher management as well, we're expected to keep profits flowing with reduced hours, we're overworked and unpaid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I recall an extremely high turnover rate for management, if you wish to lower the turnover rate I would suggest scrapping the 100% management coverage during business hours, or at the very least hiring 2 Assistant Managers per store. It's not fair or even legal for us to have to spend 12 to 13 hours at a store with no official lunch.

I have been working at Katz Group

    Pros

I have worked there for over 13 years, first 2 years were contract. With a good relationship with manager, motivation for doing work well is high.

    Cons

I have found over the years that at times a person is promoted who has good skills except for administrative or poor personality (problems with a high ego with disregard to others).

I have been working at Katz Group

    Pros

people are generally great to work with, overall a good company to work for with good benefits package

    Cons

hours are too long for managers and assistants for little compensation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

they need to take better care of their management teams and better care in selecting those being promoted to management positions and need better support for managers and assistants when things start to go wrong instead of waiting until problem get s out of hand.primary concern of company is bottom line and not managers or staff which are the life blood of all companys and it's number one asset
