You Better Perform Well & Expect Zero Feedback

    Pros

Essentially no travel, good pay, good benefits, diverse workplace, brand recognition, great access to continuing education

    Cons

Absolutely zero meaningful feedback is provided to Manager level professionals. Moreover, you will not receive meaningful feedback even if you ask for it point blank. They have over-hired at the entry level and cut heads at the Manager level to protect the PR image on campuses. There is no unified message or sense of coordination. Each Partner has his own way to the extent that you are 100% right one week, yet 100% wrong the next week. They grew too quickly and invested too much in hiring at the entry level. The recent layoff spree was so poorly managed it is truly absurd. You are only safe if you are an entry level hire or an administrative assistant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Partners must invest in the growth of the Managers. While individuality is certainly good, you need to develop some sense of a unified front. The firm too closely resembles two dozen one Partner firms merely sharing letterhead and office space.

Very little formal training, weak management and little sense of being a valued member of the team.

    Pros

    Comp is respectable.
Participate in charitable causes within the community.

    Cons

Partners on pedestals while others work goes mostly unappreciated. Not an upbeat office atmosphere.

Ask lot's of questions before you accept a job there and get their expectations in writing rather than relying on vague interpretations from management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire outside consultants to identify your areas of improvement. There are plenty of things to work on. Then implement their suggestions.

    Pros

Branding works but not supported by actions

    Cons

Manipulative smart people. Partners will do anything to keep their $500k plus salaries.

    Pros

Some nice fringe benefits (cell phone, kitchenette fully stocked)
    Plenty of Vacation Days
Open door policy of all the managers/directors

    Cons

Work is not allocated fairly, especially in the slow season
    Partners not approachable
    Very little feedback
Poor training, especially with new hires who started at the beginning of busy season

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be able to assign work outside of just busy season. Many people would just wind up twiddling their thumbs because no work was allocated to them (even after they had asked for it)

Good, Not Great, Place to Work

    Pros

KSM is a great place to work if you want a stable career. As long as you do a good job and are well liked by your partners, the sky is the limit. There are great benefits, like 4 weeks paid vacation, a kitchen full of food and drinks, and a general atmosphere of caring about your life outside of work.

    Cons

For highly ambitious people who want a high-energy job, KSM may not be right for them. It can begin to full mundane and repetitive after so many years. While you get raises every year, they are rarely eye opening and one must make partner to really make a big salary. KSM keeps its internal plans very secretive and never discusses anything with staff members. In general, there handling of layoffs, bad PR, succession planning, etc. is very poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open with the firm. Reward your high performers.
