    Pros

Helpful people, mostly adept. Strong engineering. Some senior management was very good.

    Cons

Afraid of conflict. Accountability not there for bad decisions. Loyalty at the expense of performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

    1. Great people. Very professional, hard working and highly competent.
    2. Good working environment. A large company with a small company atmosphere.
    3. Danaher. Danaher's influence has been a good one.

    Cons

    1. Tektronix. Tek is a poorly run company with absolutely no soul. I specifically left Keithley because of Tek, not because of Keithley.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pray Keithley is removed from Tek and becomes standalone again.

    Pros

The company supported one another to ensure project were completed on time. Engaged employees in office activities and lunches to to promote hard work.

    Cons

Strict to the time clock with heavy micro management of it's empoyees. Expectations of other departments to cover positions to "save" money on hiring employees created constant headaches.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is an exceptional company to work for and would recommend it to any individual who wanted a family/corporate operated organization.

    Pros

    Overall work environment is good.

    Cons

    Minimal recognition for significant work.

Uneven treatment for work and career opportunities with minimal oversight or procedures for redress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on your strengths and re-evaluate often.

Do not allow the allure of perfection or large potential markets to blind you to the difficulties in addressing these possibilities. In other words, don't bite off more than you can chew.

    Incomplete Production

    Pros

If you do not mind the opportunity to never truly complete a project, this place is for you. You may work very hard to contribute to a project, but unless management reads your important emails regarding project show stoppers the product will eventually lag past its due date. The lack of project management is a very big issue and needs to be addressed.

    Cons

Keithley is a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants company. Serious miscommunication at the management and engineering levels is very prominent. Project Managers and engineers have been known to ignore emails that contain pertinent information on a project's deadline. Not enough time is built in to the milestone schedules and a large trickle-down effect is felt by all including shipping and handling. This creates an atmosphere of fear and produces incomplete products and documentation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set a date to complete a project and when the project lapses, for whatever reason, communicate that to other departments effected by that product and allow more time to other departments as a result of the lapsed engineering deadline. Other managers in other departments must allow more elasticity in their deadlines knowing that engineers are predictably late with their projects. This way at least the other non-engineering departments will be able to successfully rebound from the lapsed deadline. Also, Keithley never keeps Project Managers through a complete product life cycle. No wonder why engineering prominently lapses deadlines. The learning curve for a Project Manager is nonexistent and therefore large turnover in Project Managers continues to hinder production.

A great smaller company to work for, now part of a great larger company

I have been working at Keithley Instruments

    Pros

There is a good sense of camaraderie among the workforce. The work is interesting and challenging and accomplishments are well recognized. There is a good sense of team spirit and a good work life balance for most employees. There is good opportunity for advancement particularly now that the company has been acquired by a much larger electronics company. A number of people he employees have moved on to better jobs with the Tektronix parent. As a Danaher company opportunities for advancement are likely to increase.

The Solon Ohio area is a great area to raise kids with a superb public school system, minimal traffic, and very affordable housing costs.

    Cons

Since the acquisition some functions such as manufacturing have been reduced and moved to other locations. Because the acquisition is relatively new there are still open questions as to how other functions might be affected in the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Growth is the key to the future. Profitability is important but in the industry Keithley serves, profitability is easier to achieve than growth. Without growth Danaher is likely to be dissatisfied with the acquisition.
