I have been working at Kelby Media Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There is a great work/life balance here. I am not expected to work crazy hours. The health insurance is great. Nice work atmosphere.

    Cons

THE PAY! I have heard that upper management gets paid very well. The company as a whole would benefit if they passed that down to all of their employees. Typically, when people are paid a salary that they are happy with, they enjoy their jobs more which creates a better atmosphere. At creative companies like this, having a culture that people enjoy is critical. Plus, it's just the right thing to do (as long as the employee is deserving of it).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget to show your team appreciation. Give people the opportunity to make excellent pay if they deserve it (more than 3-5% raises). Bonuses for meeting goals would be excellent. Keep the work/life balance. It's one of the best things this company has going for it. Keep the small, incredible things you guys do that other companies don't. If an employee seems unhappy, meet with them to hear what they have to say. Keep the communication flowing. Keep allowing people to be creative. That's what we love about working here. Talk with your star employees about where they want to go within the company. The opportunities to grow aren't always obvious, so it makes this company seem temporary if you're a driven, hard worker. No place to grow = got to go. Meet with the employees that you deem "up & comers" and see where they want to go in the company.

  2. Wow entitlement. Cant believe the bitter Glassdoor reviews from our Coworkers

I have been working at Kelby Media Group

    Pros

On here any employee or job applicant can trash a company publicly. An HR department can spam Glassdoor to singing its own praises. Honest comments get lost. If you want honesty talk to an employee with a name who actually works there not someone who quit, who needs to leave because their a whining baby or got fired. It's not perfect here but its also not perfect anywhere. The benefits are great. the pay is good and it's a casual work environment which is a big plus.

    Cons

The obvious problem is that every comment on Glassdoor is suspect including this one. Your negative experience with the company usually highlights your own problem in your job. The con here is certain individuals are very disorganized and do not listen or want to change from the old way. Act dismissive and as if you are less important than their Facebook screen in front of them. Big lack of communication, there is a general disconnect between the management/executive team and the rest of us at the company. It's not that bad though, think there's old timers here who have no idea of other jobs or work or the real world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Fire the dead weight.
Give us some clear direction and goals.
Ensure that all employees are aware of the status of the company.
Communicate the direction the company is headed and how it will be successful
Stop doing thing that don't help move forward.

    Pros

    Casual workplace. Health insurance coverage.

    Cons

What used to be a fun and creative workplace that truly valued employees has let about a quarter of its workforce go without warning so far in 2015 and has become more of a toxic workplace environment since the owners cut back on benefits, became disconnected with their staff, and started placing sub-par brown nosers and family members in key senior management positions. It had become frustrating to watch so many poor business decisions being made; often watching the same mistakes being made time and time again; yet not being able to effect change since my input as an employee no longer seemed to be valued. The CEO’s lack of formal education beyond high school combined with his ego taking precedence over making prudent business decisions has ultimately caused many good people to be let go; while the ineffective senior management remains in place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In addition to those already let go; terminate your ineffective senior management staff who helped you get to the point you're at now and retain the services of a reputable business strategy consulting firm. Remaining senior management seems to be watching out for themselves; not for your best interests. Consultants would help you determine an optimal new organizational structure and hopefully be able to turn the company around. Also, take more time to listen to your remaining employees. They helped grow the company; many sticking with you for over a decade. You should not lose sight of their wisdom and should temper it with the advice of newcomers and consultants before jumping to unsound and potentially biased conclusions. Though some of your best are unfortunately now gone; there are still many good people remaining who would appreciate you listening to them. Also, you really should consider reinstating 401k matching, assuring funds for fair raises, and providing other employee perks before taking your next spontaneous cruise or flying off to another exotic location for "work". It does not reflect well upon you as the owners to be out having fun as your employees are at an all-time low morale level and unsure if they will have a job when they come in each morning.

I have been working at Kelby Media Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very few pros. The employees are great and super talented.

    Cons

Sinking ship with the only ones steering it in denial of their abilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start listening to the people who have been there and see a positive direction to help you. There are some upper management people you rely on that simply tell you what you want to hear for fear of losing their jobs and continually blame departments or employees when they need to take responsibility themselves. You need to pull your head out of the sand.

    Pros

Casual dress, benefits, good people in the lower ranks. The idea that education comes first really makes you proud to be a part of the KelbyOne team.

    Cons

Management does not listen to skilled workers. They make bad decisions that cost the company money then they throw workers under the bus. They continue to think and make decisions the same way that they have for years and wonder why they end up in the same situations. After you work there you realize the company is all "Form over Function".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is time to put the blame for your leaky money boat where it belongs. Your management team is showing you things through rose colored glasses to protect themselves. If you want to educate people, you need skilled people, not a bunch of "Yes Men".

    Pros

Great product. Talented co-workers. Good benefits.

    Cons

You can't make this stuff up. Each day brings new fear, criticism, and disgruntlement company-wide. They bait and switch, and think it's your honor to work here in any capacity. One way street. No stability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell the business to someone who can manage people.

    Pros

Some of the greatest creative minds in the industry. Cool work place. Young, hip vibe. Good benefits and pay.

    Cons

Management forces seasoned professionals to train newer employees everything they know thus training themselves right out of a job. No loyalty after years of service. Abrupt, rude leadership in some departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating your people like people and not pawns on a chessboard or you'll lose more good employees like me.

I have been working at Kelby Media Group

    Pros

Kelby Media has a great product.

    Cons

Kelby Media has a great product. Unfortunately, the people in charge have no idea how to neither run a business nor nurture their employees. The egos and delusional propaganda run rampant. Those in charge have created a mentality where they encourage employees to throw each other under the bus for having a different opinion.

Kelby Media hires new employees without a job description, to only set the new hires up for failure. They have a 90 day “probation period” which upper management AND HR throws in new hires’ faces constantly. They also hire employees only to change their job titles without being told. There are many new hires that came in believing their job description was one thing, only to find out they are demoted and their descriptions changed to something totally different, hence setting up new hires for failure and termination.

Everyone spins their wheels trying to make management happy and does extra work to only have it thrown out. There is NO communication between departments. You are to obtain information through osmosis and expected to know what everyone is thinking.

Older employees are encouraged to harass new employees especially if the harassers and bullies are family friends of the owners. The owners barely come out of their offices and when they do, they ignore employees. Management screams “They are fair and just” only their actions demonstrate the complete opposite. Even with proof of mismanagement and harassment, you are not given a chance nor receive any help. This is a terrible vicious cycle and unfortunately EEO cannot help you. Kelby Media leaves no paper trail of harassment reports. They do, however, keep all records of employees who try to defend themselves. That file is called “Problem Employees” and they are soon terminated. Coming to work terrified daily is not a way to live.

This company is NOT organized, not legitimate and very much catered to the egos of the owners and their friends. They treat new trainers the same as employees, poorly if you are not a friend of the Kelbys. The Kelbys and their upper management will use you and throw you out once you have served your purpose. Anyone applying to this company should be weary. Any new trainers should also be weary when trying to be signed to this company.

No one understands why Adobe continues to support such a disaster of a company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shut down or lose the egos. Stop claiming you are "Christians", when you actually encourage employees to destroy people's careers with your emotional abuse and poor management skills.
